Day 1 of bulls in. Put shoes on all their back feet to hopefully reduce lameness with our long walks.

@brianjcorr1 What is your water system on the hill? Do you have reservoirs? Pumps? We have a block of hill ground for heifers- looking at options for paddocking and getting water everywhere

Silage should have been cut a week ago but we've had 90mm this week. Fodderbeet almost drowning, needs a couple of days of sunshine. Heifers can't keep up with the feed on the hills, might have to call it regenerative because they are on a 60 day rotation 😜

First 100 calves almost ready for weaning. Finding flat paddocks to park the feeders is the issue on this farm!

@BunterJones It's just to make individual management and teat training easier, they will be in groups of 15 from about a week old onwards. We do have issues with cross suckling, tried lots of different things but nothing really works!

@brianjcorr1 We’ve just got one of these- what age are you putting them on it? Are you pulling anything slow drinking out of group?

@richrobscows1 Not fed calves for years unless they clearly haven’t had any. Zero losses for 2 seasons now. Agree calving outside/space is crucial to stop cross sucking and better mothering

I definitely think there’s to much human interference after a calf is born, colostrum in so many hours blah blah, what happened back in the day,let nature do its job!

@LeverettFarming Going to feed in field for 1st time this autumn. Are the hurdles for getting in and out of the field without them following you out?

@m_herbert Intresting - was it traditionally beef and sheep land for a reason? High altitude? Thin soils? Over in UK seeing a few conversions- job to know what’s suitable and what’s not…

2 or 3 moves a day but still easier than having them in a shed. Poached areas are an opportunity for adding Chicory and plantain. Pied wagtails, meadow pipits and starling enjoying the feast. Wouldn't have turned out last week with hindsight but pleased I have. learnt lots

@Sam_Adams_1 @PhilNash2 Also running sensehub and very pleased with it. Have you looked at incidents of health alerts? Over the winter we had 16% of cows come up at some stage. Don’t know if this is good, bad or indifferent? Conscious that you could end up spending a lot jumping on everything??

@PhilNash2 I’ve got SH, know lots of people with CM. Both brilliant. Back up with SH has been very good. Looking at the Apps side by side CM needs a bit more interpretation but easy once you know what your looking at. Anyone could pick up heats and Heath on SH. Comes down to cost I think?

Any strong opinions on the CowManager vs SenseHub debate? (Aside from those who sell it 🙄😂) Sensitivity, easy of use, better cow health indicators ?
