BIG news out of Kitchener-Waterloo: the Ontario Superior Court has ruled that homelessness is an analogous ground for discrimination under s.15 of the Charter. This is a BIG step toward recognizing homeless people as an equity-seeking group under the law. Governments take note!

Everyone wants affordable housing. Both to build and live in. But slashing climate standards is a dramatic pivot away from our climate goals. I’m deeply concerned by the direction of city leadership. Come on. We can still build while also protecting our climate and residents.

Reliable and quick transit matters. So does accessibility. Removing bus stops in the DTES where many seniors & people with mobility issues rely on transit to reach healthcare and groceries, risks creating new barriers for the people who need transit most. cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

“A lot of people [in the DTES] have health issues, it's a vulnerable community. There are a lot of seniors and a lot of people don't have cars or other ways to get around. They really do rely on transit... From an equity perspective, there is a need for the Downtown Eastside to have more stops, not less.” - @BurrowsAmanda cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

Overdose prevention sites have become an easy political scapegoat for much bigger systems failures. OPS did not create the toxic drug crisis, the housing crisis or collapsing mental health supports. People are dying. We need more care, not less. OPS save lives.

What an absolute joke. Maybe the worst day I’ve had in 23+ years working at the BC Sports Hall of Fame.

Great joining some incredible women leaders on a panel for the UBC Balanced Supply of Housing Workshop to discuss community housing, wraparound supports and the realities of an insecure funding system. We need housing, but not housing only. @FirstUnitedDTES

Another consequence of FIFA coming to Vancouver. The BC Sports Hall of Fame has to vacate BC Place during the World Cup. Frustrating. These places hold local stories and history. The irony of displacing a local sports museum for a global sports event is hard to miss.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame says it has been ordered to shut down for two months to make room for an international media centre during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and it won’t be getting any compensation. vancouver.citynews.ca/2026/05/07/van…

‼️ANNOUNCEMENT‼️ Tomorrow, I will be returning the proclamation made in my honour back to Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim. The Mayor proclaimed May 29, 2024 as “Guy Felicella Day” in honour of my work advocating for “BOTH HARM REDUCTION AND RECOVERY.” Yesterday he proved that his proclamation was bullshit. He threw me and every other person in Vancouver with substance use disorder under the bus when he promised to prevent a much-needed Overdose Prevention Site from opening in downtown Vancouver. I won’t be used as part of a disingenuous display of fake compassion and understanding by Ken Sim and his ABC councillors. My full statement is below 👇 #VANpoli #ToxicDrugCrisis #AllTheTools

The DTES is blamed for concentrating care while other neighbourhoods fight to stop it. Where are people supposed to go? Overdose prevention sites do exactly that, prevent overdoses. The city blocking them increases harm & stigma and can lead to death. vancouversun.com/news/overdose-…

"In this community, the first thing that comes to my mind is the heat dome of 2021. We can all remember where we were…. I was on the front lines with colleagues trying to keep people cool, and [I just really] fear that this summer is going to be even hotter" @BurrowsAmanda cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

This is incredible news! I’ve admired Diana for years. A frontline worker and community builder alongside people who are unhoused, now stepping forward to run for council. Here vision for Toronto resonates far beyond one city. Go Diana! Cheering from Vancouver. Ward 4!
