As we approach a grim 10yr anniversary of BC's overdose crisis being declared a public health emergency, there is still no end in sight. Deaths due to toxic drugs continue to persist. Time to implement the Four Pillars approach with real investment in prevention and treatment.

Healing comes from community and displays of humanity. May we continue to hold up the community of Tumbler Ridge with care and support, and the message that they’re not alone.

We see humanity in how communities near and far offer support and resources. We see government officials across political parties united in their sorrow, compassion and action.

We’re heartbroken by the tragic and horrific shooting in Tumbler Ridge. Although we’re over a thousand kilometres away, we feel the shock, confusion and grief in our corner of the province.

Amanda Burrows, Exec Director, spoke to CBC News BC on Fri on the end of drug decriminalization: “It wasn’t fully integrated with other areas like prevention, treatment & getting the toxic drug supply clean. [It's] one tool, it was never meant to solve the drug overdose crisis”
