One of the biggest changes Peter Jackson made to The Fellowship of the Ring was how Frodo left the Shire. In the film, Gandalf discovers the Ring is the One Ring and immediately urges Frodo to leave. After Gandalf confirms the Ring’s true identity, Frodo remains in the Shire for about five months. To avoid suspicion, he sells Bag End to the Sackville-Bagginses (Otho missed out 🤣) and spreads the story that he is moving to a small house in Buckland. It looks like an ordinary move rather than a sudden disappearance. In the book, it is presented as a slow-burning shadow creeping across the Shire, while Jackson turns it into an urgent race against time from the beginning.

You kind of answered your own question, you were a kid. Same reason I loved them as a child growing up, they were made for us. As far as kids movies go they're serviceable, but compared to the OT they are still incredibly flawed and have glaring issues.
