🌳 SIX OVERLOOKED WILDLIFE STORIES THIS WEEK South Africa's 'Rhino Baron' arrested. He had bred the world's largest herd of 2,000 animals, but had intended to sell the horns in China and other Asian markets.

@KieranMaguire We got promoted the year before the new Sky TV deal. Is that comparison between L1 and Champ for broadcast money comparing like-for-like, or what Oxford made from TV in L1 compared to the following season in the Champ?

Oxford United publish 24/25 accounts, when the club finished 17th in the Championship. The bonkers nature of football finance is that the club is being evicted from the current stadium, and the £10m spent to date on finding/building a new one is not allowed for PSR purposes. 🔑figures ⚽️Revenue £19m ⬆️125% (due to promotion and get £6.50 in broadcast money in Championship for every £1 in League One) ⚽️Wages £21.7m ⬆️92% ⚽️Wages 114% of revenue ⬇️19% ⚽️Underlying loss £16.0m ⬆️33% ⚽️Stadium development costs written off £2.6m ⚽️Player sale profits £0.1m ⬇️86% ⚽️Pre tax losses £17.5m ⬆️10% ⚽️Total losses over the years £66.9m 😲 ⚽️ Player purchases £5.9m ⚽️Player sales £0.6m ⚽️Borrowings £58.9m

Hopefully a sign that Prelec is back fit soon. We haven’t see the best of him yet, in part because he’s mainly been played out of position, but his pace and physically make him a useful Lankshear alternative. I think he’s a good player written off way too soon by some #oufc

Slovenian forward Nik Prelec is set to continue his career in England. Despite a long injury layoff, Oxford United have decided to activate the purchase option and sign him permanently from Cagliari. #NikPrelec @OUFCOfficial en.nogomania.com/read/Nogomania…

@EmlynBegley Sad to think how the past, roughly, 14 months have basically torn out the identity and positive feeling the club had built since the MApp years. The Champ is obviously tough and losing games does build up negativity, but some bad decisions have been made in my opinion

There are so few members of this Oxford team I feel any real love or enthusiasm for - it’s only really the long-serving guys I’d be disappointed if they left #oufc

@whippletom Genuine question: why is that important? The richest person in the world could believe that inequality is a bad thing. Would it undermine Polanski's point if he was in one of those 50 families?

If people use this form of comparison, they should be forced to say how many millions of Britons their wealth exceeds (If you are solvent at all, your wealth is greater than the combined wealth of lowest ten million or so)

@GeorgeDugdale The keeper would never have got there after that, isn't there something in the rules about that? Might have misremembered

Bloomfield’s plan is working a treat. Going to need a lot of concentration and keeping that threat on the break to hold on. I know it was given as a foul, but Sparky is offside and interfering from the angle I’ve seen of the second, so can’t have too many complaints. #oufc

@Iberia_en I travelled from Buenos Aires to London on December 15 and my bag is still missing. I've called every day and been given different answers. Please help find it.

Have we ever scored from a long throwing. We seem rubbish at them despite doing them all the time #OUFC

@thomasforth Your point is completely irrelevant. "American sports price to the market". Well this isn't an American sport? Fifa are hellbent on destroying fan culture in football. Every attempt it makes to do so should be resisted. Market forces are irrelevant.

A lot of Brits realising that, 1/ America is quite a lot richer than the UK now, and you buy football tickets in nominal dollars, not PPP dollars. 2/ American sports price to the market in a way that European sports, especially football, typical don't. Much higher prices ranges.

@Joe_Citrone They also had a chance to score again from a long throw - guessing they wouldn't have been complaining had that gone in

@oldgamling @emkay1964 @d4nnytye I don't blame you for scepticism on that tbf. I am also sceptical that gov would ultimately do a good job, because *looks at gov*. But the current system is dire so it surely couldn't be worse.

@BySamMeadows @emkay1964 @d4nnytye Fairs. I don’t think we are going to agree on this, i think we see it from two opposite sides. I don’t trust government or big business to handle this.

my landlord in final year of uni left us without a working fridge-freezer for a month because she was on holiday, put wallpaper over black mould, then tried to take £1000 off our deposit because of dust on the skirting boards. i don’t care what any tenant does
Sam Dumitriu@Sam_Dumitriu

- Tenant fails to pay £25k in rent/bills. - Tenant steals from landlord's house. - Tenant keeps 30 (!) dogs in abusive conditions and smears poo over walls/floors leading to rat infestation. - Eviction takes 9 months and costs £27k in legal fees.

@oldgamling @emkay1964 @d4nnytye Gov is preferable to big business obviously, but at least a business recognises it's a business providing a service. To be clear: the best solution is that people can afford to buy their homes if they want to, with social housing available for those who want to rent.

@oldgamling @emkay1964 @d4nnytye Yes I do think that haha. I think we just disagree as you keep framing very obvious questions as if to answer yes is ridiculous! The 'bad landlord' argument is ridiculous. It's an inherently exploitative business. EVERY armchair landlord I've had was like this

@oldgamling @emkay1964 @d4nnytye The problem is private landlords don't see themselves as small businesses. They see themselves as investors and savers. The tenant is an annoying afterthought

@BySamMeadows @emkay1964 @d4nnytye Small professional rental sector? So you want to take property off what are basically small businesses (private landlords) and give it to megacorps or the government to control our rental market?
