Once their #children had left home #middleaged women used to be free of parental responsibility. Many enjoyed the chance to have new interests, friends, etc. But now their adult children are asking them to keep caring. Should they? Is looking after small children too tiring after 50 or 60? Is their psychological freedom being denied? Our Zoom #CPD on the subject of the #sandwich generation features Annette Byford, #therapist and author of Once a Mother, Always a Mother. Welldoing members can attend for free, but we now make it possible for therapists who don't belong to buy Eventbrite tickets. See below -- we would love to have you on this call -- 1-2pm tomorrow on Zoom. eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-changing…

I won my category in the @AdvantagesofAge awards! Wellness Change-Maker for starting up @Welldoing_Org. Here I am with the inspirational co-founders Rose Rouse and @_SuzanneNoble. They disavow anti-ageing dogma, sneer at the beige cliches of old age, and have fun!

This is an awful and shocking episode, where there was no criminality, but perhaps a complicated private life. That doesn’t feel very private now. I hope that will give some cause to reflect. They really need to. I wish ⁦@thehuwedwards⁩ well.

@glosswitch Im sorry I missed this. Just reading „Hags“ and totally gripped! The toxic mix of misogyny and fear of old age has fascinated me for a while, as a woman and as a psychotherapist. I wrote about it in my book „Once a Mother, always a Mother“ on life with adult children. Interested?

At the same time our children are becoming adults and going through their own evolution as people. This time of transition is sold to us Mums as the chance to ‘get back more time to ourselves’ and ‘do more of things we’ve always wanted to’. In reality, it can be bloody difficult.
