Do anti-cycling accounts on Twitter really believe these things are true, or even that they are the reasons people don’t feel empowered to cycle? Even if they don’t want to cycle, why are they so committed to building the infrastructure that empowers others to do so?
Topbloke Golf@Topblokegolf

@2wheelsgoodBrum @SimonMDLord @martynschmoll Most places (especially outside NL) have hills, sprawl, car-centric layouts, different climates, and far less political/financial commitment. the full Dutch package is incredibly hard to replicate. realistic expectations matter. Disingenuous posts no thank you

"Unlike cars, bikes don't really take you anywhere." Between Paris and its inner suburbs, 14% of trips are made by bicycle, 11.8% by car.

Motonormativity convinces people journeys are mostly fast, long, involving several people and in poor weather. Most journeys take under five minutes to cycle and involve one person and no rain. Cycling is ideal for these if there’s a suitable network of cycling infrastructure.
B52Returns@B52Returns

@2wheelsgoodBrum Cycling is very limited - in speed, range, carrying capacity. A car gives you the freedom to travel faster, farther, for longer distances, and carry people who arent able to cycle. Not to mention it is a roof over your head and protects in bad weather.

If a Green candidate called for Jews to be melted down and used to fill pot holes, Keir Starmer would call a Cobra meeting and proscribe the Green Party, but a Reform candidate can say that about Nigerians and silence. This is what we mean when we say there is a racism hierarchy.
