Yes, the Syrian rebels met with Christian representatives and priests, and reassured them about their safety. That is good! But look closely. None of the Christians were wearing their crosses. Why? This practice dates back since Caliph Omar, when the concept of Zimmi was created. Neither Jews nor Christians were allowed to display religious symbols
Christian Emergency Alliance@ChristianEmerg1

Syria: Where are the priests’ crosses? Why are they not wearing them? The priests share pledges of unity and goodwill with the country’s new rulers. But something seems off…

When journos classify "billionaires" they miss that: 1- It is paper valuation. If they were able to liquidate, they may no longer be billionaires, as prices are sensitive to a large supply. 2- If they managed to sell, they will owe capital gains taxes. 3- Sometimes, as with PE they just can' t sell.

How many more dead Palestinians do you guys need to satiate your blood lust/boost your internet cred? The last 14 months have proven that they are DEFINITELY NOT in a position to take on the Israelis. During the WW2 German occupation of Serbia, the Germans instituted a "100 for 1" policy in which 100 random Serbs would be executed for every single German soldier that was killed by any resistance force. The Serbs lost an incredible amount of people in WW1, and didn't want to risk total biological extinction via taking on an enemy that was far too strong for them at the time. What you, Matt Kennard, should do, is volunteer and join Hamas if your blood lust is so great so that you put your own life on the line instead.

Byzantine-Coptic woolen thread tapestry from 500's Egypt. The inscriptions in Greek have the names of the holy figures, Michael, Mary, and Gabriel. While on the sides, Jesus' disciples with their names inscribed in Greek like Andrew, Matthew, Luke, Philip, Mark. Blond Jesus is not a 20th century American movie thing... @ Cleveland Museum of Art

A couple of more points. First, Druse society is, thankfully, not democratic. You have to be an idiot to follow the whims of the majority in a region so volatile. So random speakers do not matter, nor does public sentiment. The religious leadership and politicians subject to it decide (a practice that Syrian and Lebanese Christians really should relearn). So far the leadership is opposed except for one upstart politician in Lebanon on the UAE payroll. He was formerly on the Assad and Hezbollah side. You can imagine why the Druse do not follow upstarts in critical moments. Second, I won't waste my time with the video from the guy claiming to be Druse speaking about Suweyda with a Hebrew accent. Trying to sell that as the Druse position should cause whoever does it shame.

There was a meeting in which one Druse man in Mt Hermon expressed support for the villages of the area joining Israel. The audience seemed partly supportive. Now a string of statements from the region rejecting this idea have come out. These are signed by social and religious leaders, rather than one guy. The narrative that the Druse want to join Israel is, for the most part, fake. It's worth recalling that the Israelis offered the Druse a state before the Lebanese civil war and offered to extend it to Syria. The Druse did not take the offer then. Things have changed now. There is a choice between the Sunnis and the Jews. The Druse conventional wisdom is that the Sunnis will always be there, and that Israel has no staying power. There is some evidence of a shift, but not at the level of religious leaders or decision makers.

This period of early 21st-century Turkish diplomacy will be studied for years in IR schools. Solid show of ruthless realpolitik, in a world pretty devoid of it.

Recent achievements in diplomacy and geopolitics: -Backed Azerbaijan to victory over Armenia in Nagorno-Karabakh. -Took decisive actions against Kurdish groups in northern Syria. -Held wealthier and more powerful European countries hostage with migration leverage. -Now consolidating power over Syria, effectively turning it into a vassal.

Regardless of where you stand on this, Turks have yet again proven themselves to be masters of diplomacy and geopolitics. They continue to punch far above their weight as a middle power, out maneuvering wealthier and more powerful countries.

This is NOT 1921. Syria becoming a Turkish satrapy isn't economically a bad thing: when the war started Turkish GDP was ½ of France, UK (ppp). Today it is abt the same. Recall that W. Syria was the richest Ottoman province (& Roman).

Israel killed the last remaining orthopedic surgeon in Northern Gaza today. Dr. Saeed Joudeh was on his way to the hospital when Israel shot him in the head. He was not a combatant. He was a doctor devoted to saving lives.

Lol irony. I often criticize Elijah for being ridiculous, elevating the resistance and its "deterrence" capabilities, giving resistoids false hope. But he was sort of right in that 2019 article where he claimed that the entire Hezb leadership would get wiped out in future war.
RTSG@RTSG_Main

🧵🇱🇧 THREAD: In 2019, Mr. Elijah Magnier authored an article in a Kuwaiti newspaper which Sayed Hassan Nasrallah personally was forced to respond to, calling it a ridiculous piece of “science fiction”. To this day, Elijah still reposts the article and other pieces of disinfo.
