Generally speaking (Ac/Dc not withstanding) if it comes to replacing the singer who is the most recognizable person in the band and especially one with a very unique vocal style, it is better to just start a new band. Of course you don’t get the tour advances/support and the big bookings without the name, so that’s a big reason for why they did it.
