@E_Marocchini @HRadders Thank you! Yours sounds super interesting as well! That double empathy problem in action! I'll try to stop by if I'm still standing by 5:30!

Tomorrow I’m flying to #INSAR2023 to talk about research I’ve been working on with @brontereidinger, @drstevenkapp and Dr Ashley de Marchena, about autistic adults’ experiences of nonverbal commication (Friday, comm and lang oral session, 5.12pm). I’m excited to share our work!

@HRadders Thanks! I've added your talk to my schedule too :) I'm equal parts excited and terrified - first time presenting something in person!

If you’re attending #INSAR2023 and are interested in nonverbal communication or cross neurotype interactions, or if you’re an #ActuallyAutistic PhD student/researcher, send me a message- it would be great to meet up and chat!

@social_parasite I agree. I was going to do it today and get some work done...but then I realised it was a bank holiday so had an extra day of pyjama existence

Can anyone think of good speakers to talk about relationships and sexuality to autistic parents? If they are an autistic parent that's a bonus. If they are just autistic also good. If neither still ok but we prioritise autistic speakers.

#Oliverscampaign Discrimination against Learning Disabled people from the caring profession is real. Often this discrimination is subconscious, we must self reflect & heal ourselves if we are to change culture. Thoughts??

Something that I dont think is talked about enough with the autistic experience is just how long trauma can last. Autistic minds have a tendency to replay events over & over the way NT minds dont. It can keep us looped in the moment of trauma indefinitely.

@DanNichollsNo9 I'd say let them wear joggers - their comfort and being able to think about their learning (instead of how uncomfortable they feel) is surely more important. Also exploring clothing options that feel as loose and flexible as joggers but look smarter, e.g. no waistband

@CAB_Research Do you have any solutions for students that struggle wearing a trouser and a skirt? Besides very baggy joggers!

@autistic_tuts I link this with being a natural problem-solver. I will try and solve the 'problem' even years after an event, especially if there is no simple solution. It's a mechanism that's supposed to help us learn from mistakes but taken to an extreme causes rumination

#AskingAutistics Is there a connection between finding it hard to get over things and being autistic? Or is it something else entirely?

@artistAuDH We're generally not good at selectively attending to sounds, so instead of struggling to attend to everything, sounds like your brain is blocking ALL speech - an efficient if somewhat inconvenient coping strategy! I do this when I'm hyperfocused
