Brilliant first session on our new self- directed course with year 10. The students were designing 'the world's best game' based on what they enjoy about moving. In order to answer the question for this half term 'why do I love sport' yr13 down to help them develop their ideas.

@jacricks 100% in my experience. Prescribed technique/formula leads to passive “learning” which drives disengagement. Can we expand this to ALL learning environments? 🤔

What does a beginner coach, working with young kids NEED to know: How to make it fun. How to make it safe. How to build postive relationships with kids and their parents / carers. How to teach basic skills in an engaging and enjoyable way. How to create an environment where the child has the opportunity to fall in love with the sport and movement. What is it many sporting associations TEACH them at beginner coaching courses? Physiology. Biomechanics. Psychology. Skill Acquisition. Periodization. Sport and the Law. Coaching Pedagogy. Is it just me???? This is like trying to develop Dentists by having them study Carpentry. The world is crying out for coaches - yet we're training them to do everything BUT actually coach. Having said that - thankfully - a lot of sports have got the message and have changed their coach education, training and development programs but most places I go around the world, the "default" is still as it was in 1980s. Coach coaches to coach - is it really that difficult to design and deliver education programs that focus on that?

@intrinzen If you can successfully “train” this horse using Ecological Dynamics, the ETHICAL implications are massive as to how humans train animals… and how humans train other humans.

Big moment for me! First “ride” on my youngster, a horse that has been “trained” ONLY with Eco-D, and as an experiment, I’m seeing how long we can go with NO instruction. Never thought we’d get THIS far before *some* kind of actual teaching, but he learns from the other horses ❤️

Hockey Canada completed a study which concluded that 1 quality run practice with many puck touches, game like, decision making, challenging and fun will equal up to eleven "regular" full ice games. Keep that study in mind when designing your practice to maximize development.
