A traffic stop this afternoon on Nonaville Rd for a brake light out and improper plate turned into much more. Officers discovered the driver, a 38-year-old Nashville man, was wanted in two counties—for failure to appear on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance out of Nashville, and for a probation violation in Wilson County. Officers also found heroin and unlawful drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, and discovered the temporary license plate was fake. The individual was still driving on a revoked license as well. He was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Jail. We’re proud of our officers’ vigilance and commitment to keeping Mt. Juliet safe. Every day, their proactive efforts help protect our community and ensure we remain one of the safest places to live.

While patrolling I-40 West this evening, one of our officers spotted a vehicle with a license plate associated to a person wanted out of Wilson County. The driver, a 28-year-old Lebanon woman, initially pulled over but suddenly accelerated as the officer approached her car. Rather than engage in a pursuit, officers monitored her from a distance. She was followed to the Kroger on Old Hickory Blvd in Hermitage, where she tried to call in another ride as a decoy. When that ride arrived, she attempted to flee—but officers moved in, blocked the vehicle, and safely took her into custody. She was wanted on a probation violation warrant for DUI and now also faces charges for felony evading and driving on a revoked license. We’re grateful to MNPD officers for their assistance in the arrest. This is another strong example of the vigilance, coordination, and proactive work our officers demonstrate every day to help keep Mt. Juliet safe.

Convicted felon Katlyn Gayle Wray, 28, faces multiple charges including 2 x vehicle theft, reckless endangerment, & 4 x felony evading arrest for this morning's slow speed pursuit. She was on probation for a forgery conviction & also had an outstanding vehicle theft warrant.

This afternoon, an officer recognized a driver on I-40 East from a previous encounter and knew she had an invalid license. After confirming the license was still invalid, the officer conducted a traffic stop. Further investigation revealed the passenger, a 42-year-old Lebanon man, was wanted in three counties. He had active warrants in Wilson County for failure to appear on meth and marijuana possession charges, Sumner County for failure to appear on driving on a revoked license and leaving the scene of an accident, and Nashville for failure to be booked on a driving on a revoked license charge. While handcuffed during the stop, the man attempted to discard an item by shaking it loose from his shorts and trying to destroy it on the ground. Officers quickly recovered most of the substance, which was identified as fentanyl. A search of the individual and the vehicle uncovered additional paraphernalia related to fentanyl use. He was arrested on his outstanding warrants and charged with possession of fentanyl, possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with evidence. Outstanding work by our officers to help keep dangerous drugs and wanted individuals out of our community.

Nashville has a Nazi problem. While the First Amendment does give these idiots the right to put their racism and bigotry on display in public places, revealing for all to see what losers they are, it doesn’t give them the right to harass or physically intimidate people. When they cross lines from hateful speech to unlawful intimidation, law enforcement needs to step in quickly and decisively. When they violate laws about when and how assembly and protest can occur they (like any other group) should be cited and shut down. When they don’t cross legal lines, while their hate may constitutionally protected, it certainly isn’t morally protected. We must call it out for what it is: an effort by the worst among us to normalize bigotry -- a project that we in Middle Tennessee thoroughly reject. They may choose to do it here because they think it has a receptive audience here. We need to make it clear they are badly mistaken.
