@MatthewBevan A missed opportunity. I don't disagree with what you said, I just think you missed the story. Venezuela's campaign to get a hold of gargantuan Guyana's oil reserves is the story.

Trump bombing speedboats off the coast of Venezuela seems kind of pointless. Until you look at it from a historical perspective. This is page one in the Panama Invasion Playbook. The full story is in the latest episode of If You’re Listening youtu.be/UrcROiL-IXI?si…

@Anne_MarieBrady From Congressional Research Service, the [US] Supreme Court holds the US’ foreign affairs power is superior to states and is solely in the national government. In foreign relations, the Court said that “[US] state lines disappear” & the “purpose of the State ... does not exist.”

An interesting turn of events: "New Zealand interested in joining second tranche of Aukus deal, defence minister says" I wonder if that would mean we'd be allowed to have SSN-AUKUS boats visit NZ ports? stuff.co.nz/national/polit…

@JohnBlaxland1 @NickBisley PJK moaned that Marles was too involved instead of FM Wong, but the def. min. seems to be the most relevant. Also griped that neither UK nor US put money in. But it's Aus that's buying subs! Doesn't that protect Aus sovereignty, instead of relying on somebody else's $$?

@NickBisley You post this suggesting that's a good thing. Vitriol, venom and on a public stage. Own goal, I say. Beijing will be pleased. I can't see how this advances Australia fair, tbh.

It’s going to be tougher for Tokyo to push an Asia focus now, even though the war in Ukraine looks like it’ll be protracted. Since Tokyo signed on to the Ukraine = rules-based international order logic, how do they shift to focusing on China and Taiwan? Not a good situation.

I think Japan may have made an historic error by going along with the US focus on Ukraine. American resolve is not limitless and Americans have spent well over $100 billion there on top of the forever wars. Tokyo should have insisted on an Asia focus.

@minatatnga It's stunning to see how ready officials and parts of the public are to jump to a conclusion. Even if we discover nefarious intent on the PRC's part, we should keep a watchful eye on our own assumptions. This is a cautionary tale.

Yes, because 5 minutes after funding is passed the infrastructure of an entire nation that has been crumbling for 50 years is all repaired and replaced overnight. This truly is a thoroughly dumbed-downed party.
