CAL FIRE
CAL FIRE@CAL_FIRE·
🚩 Critical fire weather is expected across parts of California this week. A Red Flag Warning is in effect Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday for portions of Trinity and Shasta counties, where isolated dry thunderstorms could produce lightning outside of rainfall, increasing the risk of new wildfire starts. A Fire Weather Watch is also in effect Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning for the mountains and south coast of Santa Barbara County, the Ventura County Mountains, and the Interstate 5 Corridor. Forecast conditions include strong northwest to north winds, hot temperatures, and relative humidity as low as 10–25%. If a wildfire starts, these conditions can lead to rapid fire growth and extreme fire behavior. Prepare now by packing a go-bag, creating a wildfire action plan with your family, and avoiding activities that could spark a fire. #ReadyForWildfire #OneLessSpark #RedFlagWarning #FireWeatherWatch #CAwx

Happy National Rock Day! 🤘 Most rocks sit still; these ones are put to work! Temporary rock barriers in the south Delta help maintain water levels affected by pumping plants and support water management during critical summer months. These temporary geological wonders can be found at Old River near Tracy, Middle River, and Grant Line Canal. They will be removed by November 30. They're only here for a season, so don't take them for granite! See more photos of these barriers and all of DWR's photos at pixel-ca-dwr.photoshelter.com/search?terms=%…

DWR has many amazing resources including the FREE California Irrigation Management Information System, which has just undergone a revamp to be faster and more reliable! CIMIS has over 150 weather stations collecting local weather data including air and soil temperature, humidity, and precipitation to generate hourly reports. Data from CIMIS helps California save billions of dollars a year while conserving our most precious resource, water. By air, land, and water, California is collecting more information about our groundwater systems than ever before. With reliance on groundwater continuing to grow, tools like floating transient electromagnetic (FloaTEM) are helping DWR and local partners better understand and manage California’s water resources. #California #Groundwater

Delta residents are expected to experience little if any disruption of local traffic as a result of Delta Conveyance Project construction. Design features such as dedicated haul roads, worker park-and-ride systems, and traffic management coordination, will result in no measurable increase in routine travel times on Delta roads, with construction traffic largely routed away from local communities. For more information on DWR’s ongoing efforts to address Delta residents’ concerns about the impacts of DCP construction, check out this informative infographic at water.ca.gov/-/media/DWR-We… #California #DeltaConveyanceProject

DNA isn’t just a way to solve crimes or uncover more relatives in your family tree, it is the key to discovering and mapping biodiversity in our waterways! Environmental DNA plays an important role in leaving behind the microscopic clues that scientist detectives need to better understand the ecosystem and species that call those habitats home. Learn more about how eDNA and metabarcoding are being used as non-invasive tools for monitoring biodiversity and tracking ecosystem health at water.ca.gov/News/Blog/2026… #DNA #Biodiversity #Science #California
