Retail sales volumes fell at a rapid pace in the year to February, extending a run of weakness that dates back to mid-2023. Sales are expected to contract again next month, albeit at a slower rate, according to the CBI’s latest quarterly Distributive Trades Survey.

Bank of England MPC maintained Bank Rate at 4.75% today. The decision was widely expected, but the vote split of 6-3 comes as a bit more of a surprise. The minutes also noted the potential trade-off between weak demand and persistent price pressures going forward

It's good to see that UK #GDP growth picked up in May (to 0.4% m/m). The expansion over the month mostly reflected a recovery in sectors like retail and construction, which had been negatively affected by April's wet weather

UK GDP grew 0.4% in May, following no growth in April, and exceeding market expectations of 0.2% growth. On a rolling three-month basis, GDP rose 0.9% in the three months to May, the strongest since January 2022. #GDP
