@DaileySuzanne@sheehyrw This year I want to Be the One who stays focused on what is important. I want to put aside the noise that gets in the way of doing the right things for the right reasons. If I stay focused, I will be the ONE for my students. Thanks for a great summer of PD #cbsdpd
We complete our summer-long #CBSD Twitter Slow Chat with this final question from @sheehyrw’s #BeTheOne. I love the collegial relationships & professional ideas we’ve shared with one another over the past 7 weeks. Thank you for trying this innovative approach to PD! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@sheehyrw One actionable goal I want to set is being intentional about building relationships! Dedicating time before the bell rings, during a lunch break, or at the end of the day to listen to my students hobbies and interests. #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@sheehyrw I would like to continue to be the one who doesn't limit learning. I think it is easy to fall in to this trap when you have been in the same grade level for a long time. My team is constantly looking for ways to teach using different techniques! #cbsdp
@DaileySuzanne@mres A1 I so agree with the idea of Student X. I see the kids afraid to build legos w/o instructions. I would love to see students interacting, especially in primary grades, using nature and authentic tools. There is a lot to be said for adapting some of the Montessori model. #cbsdpd
A twist for our second to last CB Slow Chat prompt. In the spirit of @mres’s value on student choice & autonomy, respond to ONE of these prompts to process some challenging & worthwhile ideas from Lifelong Kindergarten (and yes, of course it’s OK to respond to both!) #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@mres We totally see the “X” students in our new Innovation Lab @CBKutzElem ...whether it’s building with Legos, Brain Flakes, or getting creative with Tinker Toys...the “X” students really shine! 👏 @AControy@CBAmyJeffers So glad to be able to sign out this awesome space! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@mres I am starting to see this more and more with our students, especially with the creation of our Innovation Lab just a few years ago. Students can create, think critically, invent, and take risks to try new things! It’s an amazing space! #cbsdpd
@OConnorReads@DaileySuzanne I like the idea of making a conscious effort to choose joy! We need to make sure we are actively practicing it--for ourselves and for our kiddos! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne Broadening my kids' horizons and connecting to other classrooms around the world. I just learned about a really cool collaboration project called "The Monster Global Project". It has so many important skills built into it that it will be time well spent with my kiddos! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne I am going to make sure I "collaborate over coffee" more often. My colleagues always have awesome ideas but sometimes finding the time to collaborate can be tough! @Kutz3rdGrade@Lheacock2#cpsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@timdwalk I love the idea of PBL...Ss pick a topic and research on their own. Last year, with the support of @CBmrslong, the kids made their own instruments to correlate with our sound unit. They performed and recorded via @DoInkTweets = awesome sauce! Can’t wait for 3rd grade PBLs.#cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@timdwalk As we begin our journey teaching @MIF4Educators I see this directly relating to the productive struggle in solving word problems. Allowing students time to grapple with information independently builds problem solvers & provides greater ownership of their learning #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@timdwalk Love this idea! Learning isn’t always comfortable—sometimes it takes a while to get to that place where you finally feel like “I’ve got it!”. This method gives Ss the chance to process the material in their own way, allowing them to develop some ownership. #cbsdpd
@HeacockElle@DaileySuzanne It does! Your positive and loving nature make them want to come back and see you each year! I see your Ss come back to connect with you or just for a hug! That can only mean one thing—they are grateful for you ❤️! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne Ideally I'd love all my students to want to be in my room - My approach: I GET THE PRIVILEGE of teaching each child in my room. Hope my students feel that and it transfers to a joy for learning each day. #cbsdpd
@Kutz3rdGrade@DaileySuzanne Good point Michelle! You get to have them and they get to have you!!! I see the excitement on their faces when they realize they get to have you—you connect with Ss and make it fun everyday!!! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne Move-up Day is very telling...as Ts are unveiled...I would hope the Ss feel like I do. I GET to have them in my classroom & they GET to have me as their teacher! I stand at my door and greet then every single day. It’s the best way to start the morning! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne My hope is that Ss feel like they GET to be in my classroom. I want them to go home feeling like they've had a good day or a great day. It may not always be a super fun day, but a good day; good enough to want to come back and do it all over again :)!
#cbsdpd
@Kutz3rdGrade@DaileySuzanne Love Positive Thought Tuesday Michelle! Class Meetings can be so powerful in bonding and building peer relationships. #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne Empowerment...through class meetings! Ss are able to get to know each other better as they build stronger relationships with their peers. My kids especially ❤️ Positive Thought Tuesday where they choose a character trait/example to describe their classmates! Heartwarming! #cbsdpd
@OConnorReads@DaileySuzanne Shannon-I so agree! Students are so much more invested when the topic is meaningful or interesting to them. I see this all the time especially in reading--the change of topic or allowing them to self-select their books can be so powerful!
#cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne Students need to have opportunities to choose how they engage with skills (e.g. choosing their research topic to fit a personal interest or goal when practicing a research skill) to feel a sense of empowerment about their own learning. #cbsdpd#slowchat
@DaileySuzanne Q1: I would like to place more of an emphasis on energy. We serve as a model for everything; and if we lose energy and stamina, students will too. Like Wade and Hope mentioned, you set the trends and you determine the vibe. I want to keep that vibe going all year long! #cbsdpd
THANK YOU, awesomeizers! We covered (and uncovered!) so much together these past few weeks. How do you feel about Twitter chats as a form of PD? Please leave feedback in the comments so #cbsdpd can meet your needs in the future! Enjoy these last sweet weeks of summer!
