#ConsumerAlert #consumersafety #productrecall #ThermosStainlessKingFoodJars #ThermosStainlessKingFoodBottles COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission ("CCCC") has become aware of a recall of Thermos Stainless King Food Jars and Bottles – Models Sk3000, Sk3020 and Sk3010 Food & Beverage Bottles by issued by Thermos L.L.C., on 30 April 2026, due to serious impact injury and laceration hazards. A total of 8.2 million units are affected by the recall. #6May2026 #Manila-#Philippines #ICNConference2026 #Hostshowcase “The COMESA competition regulatory framework created a system that ensures that no one is left behind! It covers enforcement gaps likely to be experienced by COMESA Member States that have no competition laws in place or which have younger agencies that are facing skills gap or inadequate resources. The COMESA regional competition law has been instrumental in providing a platform for these Member States and agencies to address competition law violations manifesting at the national level but which have an impact at the regional level”. Dr Willard Mwemba, CEO of the COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission (CCCC) shared these sentiments during the Host Showcase session at the International Competition Network (ICN) Annual Conference 2026 @IntCompNetwork . The Host Showcase session focused on the topic of, “Lessons from the past, challenges ahead: Navigating regional cooperation’s next frontier.” Dr Mwemba informed the delegates that the competition regulatory framework of COMESA was a product of formalized cooperation which resulted from successful informal cooperation. The cooperation led to the establishment of a regional competition law which created a one-stop shop regime for both merger control and conduct cases resulting in advantages such as reduction of cost of doing business, among others. #COMESA #COMESAMemberStates #COMESARegion #CommonMarket #cooperation #CCCC #quadC

#5May2026 #Manila-#Philippines #smalleconomies #ICNConference2026 #preICNevent "Safeguarding institutional independence and enhancing the effectiveness and credibility of competition authorities in small markets is very important", Dr Mwemba (CEO of the COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission (CCCC) During the panel session on "Governance and Institutional Design" at the Small Economies Forum, Dr Mwemba highlighted the importance of small and insular economies putting in place sound governance frameworks for their competition authorities which could be achieved by ensuring the establishment of independent boards, meritorious appointments of board members and senior management. The discussion included a reflection by Dr Mwemba on structural challenges faced by small competition authorities such as limited resources and weak knowledge management systems. He thus emphasized the value of peer learning and cooperation among such authorities. Some of the avenues he proposed for this were; small and young authorities learning from more established agencies through regional and international platforms to strengthen institutional capacity. #COMESA #CommonMarket #COMESAMemberStates #COMESARegion #insulareconomies #smallcompetitionauthorities #youngcompetitionauthorities

#ACF #AfricanCompetitionForum #13April2026 #Tanzania #digitaleconomy #CCCC #quadC The African Competition Forum (ACF) is an informal network which brings together African national and multinational competition authorities. The Director Legal at the COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission ("CCCC"), Ms Apoche Itimu, delivered opening remarks at the ACF. She highlighted that the rapid growth of Africa’s digital economy and its rising contribution to GDP is driven by sectors such as e-commerce, fintech and digital media. She emphasized that while digital markets deliver significant benefits, they also raise complex competition concerns. Addressing these concerns requires not only robust legal frameworks but also strengthened institutional capacity and technical expertise. She stated that regional platforms like the ACF remain critical for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and equipping authorities to respond effectively to the evolving digital landscape. The CCCC was also represented at the Forum by Principal Merger Analysts, Ms Nadjmiya Jumeer and Stella Musau. #AfricaCompetition #COMESA #COMESAMemberStates #COMESARegion #CommonMarket #digital
