@CCGordon33 Yeah, because “Buffy” certainly didn’t have an artistic voice and direction. Certainly not one that led people to append “-esque” to an artist’s name. May the source of that artistic voice and direction get what’s coming to him, of course.

When I hear the phrase “lacking coverage”, I think of Billy Wilder famously refusing to shoot coverage, because coverage was what the studio used when they wanted to screw him. Coverage makes hacking up a piece of media in the editting room a lot easier.
Variety@Variety

EXCLUSIVE: Sources say Chloé Zhao ultimately proved a mismatch for the “Buffy” reboot, with the pilot reportedly undershot and lacking coverage, requiring reshoots. Her filmmaking style, while acclaimed, didn’t translate to a dialogue-heavy TV pilot, and the new cast’s performances were said to be under-directed, making it difficult for the characters to land. variety.com/2026/tv/news/b…

@CommonSentiment I'm also personally announcing that I will not in good conscience send young men and women off to die on foreign battlefields. If anyone was concerned.

To get more into early American Judaism. The first wave of Jewish immigrants to America were middle class craftsmen from Germany. They were urban, used to living around non-Jews and had already developed a separation between nationality and religion. They mostly settled in the mid Atlantic and South, where racial demographics made WASPs more flexible about what was white. The South’s heavy Protestantism probably also influenced Jewish anti Catholicism. The first 3 Jewish senators were Southern and one, Judah Benjamin would be a Confederate cabinet member. These Southern Jews, actually resented later East European Jews. Who settled in the NE, came from a more rural background, and often connected religion and nationality. They thought they gave them a bad name.

See this is the kind of take you fire off if you didn’t pay any attention to the race. Despite having few ties to the district, being a 26-year-old first-time candidate & facing a barrage of negative ads from AIPAC, Kat beat out 3 state legislators & will come within 3 points of defeating the mayor of Evanston (who’s also a former state senator and was a prominent gubernatorial candidate).

There's plenty of appetite for progressivism, etc., within the Democratic electorate, but the Very Online version of it doesn't really travel well.

The news about Cesar Chavez raping underage girls and Dolores Huerta is bleak, but expected. This phenomenon, the creation of fucktoys of the revolution, is extremely common, and nonpartisan. Wherever you get a movement or group that is insular and hostile towards outsiders, which demands intellectual purity on threat of expulsion, centers itself so thoroughly in the lives of its members that it becomes a social or even familial community in and of itself, and is centered on a charismatic male figure, sexual assault and the exploitation and objectification of women becomes not just a bug, but a feature. You saw it in the young women that leveraged their youthful bodies for Bernie Sanders' primary candidacy, his supporters that accused foes of being "vagina voters," and then the reports that his female staffers had been assaulted and paid less than men. You saw it in the Socialist Workers Party in the UK, when Comrade Delta was accused of rape. The Party's Disputes Committee prioritized party unity, leading to a mass exodus of members. You saw in it FLDS, where Jeffs dominated a town politically and socially, controlling all familial and sexual relations, abolishing private property and owning nearly all land in a trust, and creating a harem of underage girls. You see it in the O9A/764 Networks, where leaders promote revolution and compel members, typically underage or young women and sexual minorities, to commit crimes after extorting them with sexual blackmail material like self-produced child pornography. The truth is, when it comes to political movements and the abuse of women, they can operate so much like cults that they are functionally indistinguishable. The relationship between power and sexual violence is so pervasive and undeniable—it is rare to see a man who strongly desires absolute social or political power that will not soon turn his abusive gaze upon women's bodies and lives.
Dilan Esper@dilanesper

A lot of the movements of the early New Left treated women in their movements like sexual playthings rather than full partners. It took a long time for feminists to change this. Someone like Cesar Chavez was going to get away with whatever he wanted.

The point of eunuchs is that they are less likely to engage in nepotism and other forms of corruption. these weird medieval government staffing schemes — a slave army, eunuchs, designated roles ethnic minorities — are about how to get around the propensity ppl have to nepotism
Archie Woodrow@SamuraiApology

isn't the whole point that eunuchs are meant to be less likely to betray you? if they're only equally likely to betray you, what's the point of castrating them in the first place

@unicornca1s My theory is that a decent amount of female celebrity “starvation” look is lack of any arm muscle. The skinniness of her arms compared to her torso makes her look anorexic.

@arctotherium42 My crazy idea to win the Afghan war, was for the US to make fortified towns around the major highways populated by Hispanic illegal aliens. Allow a more western friendly group to be the rulers of Afghanistan.

The Qing solution to the problem of ethnic conflict with the Jinchuan tribal people in southwest China: use European Christian missionaries as gun casters to destroy their stone towers, then exterminate them and repopulate the area with Chinese (FW Mote, Imperial China).
