GI Surgeons of Twitter: recurrent diverticulitis after elective sigmoid colectomy should be RARE. Most modern studies report a rate <5%, and in my anecdotal experience it's probably closer to 1%. The biggest predictor of recurrence is retained distal sigmoid colon with a colo-colonic anastomosis, which is associated with a 12-23% risk of recurrence (refs below) Take-home point: be sure you're stapling across the rectum, not the distal sigmoid, and remember that you're not as low as you think. Diverticulitis/abscesses make the colon scrunch down like an accordion in the pelvis. Today we've started a pilot for electronically recording DNACPR status on @MEDITECH on ward A2. Working closely with Dr Alex Scholes from a clinical perspective, if successful we'll look to roll out throughout the Trust.

Today we've gone live with our new endoscopy clinical system @Medilogik_EMS. This will link automatically link to appointments from @MEDITECH and send completed reports back.
