Il denaro viene restituito al legittimo proprietario. Le indagini proseguono per recuperare l’auto e identificare il complice. Before the small village of Rome became “Rome” with a capital R (to paraphrase the author D. H. Lawrence), a brilliant civilization once controlled almost the entire peninsula we now call Italy. This was the Etruscan civilization, a vanished culture whose achievements set the stage not only for the development of ancient Roman art and culture but for the Italian Renaissance as well. Though you may not have heard of them, the Etruscans were the first “superpower” of the Western Mediterranean who, alongside the Greeks, developed the earliest true cities in Europe. They were so successful, in fact, that the most important cities in modern Tuscany (Florence, Pisa, and Siena, to name a few) were first established by the Etruscans and have been continuously inhabited since then. Yet the labels “mysterious” or “enigmatic” are often attached to the Etruscans since none of their own histories or literature survives. This is particularly ironic as it was the Etruscans who were responsible for teaching the Romans the alphabet and for spreading literacy throughout the Italian peninsula. Etruscan influence on ancient Roman culture was profound. It was from the Etruscans that the Romans inherited many of their own cultural and artistic traditions, from the spectacle of gladiatorial combat, to hydraulic engineering, temple design, and religious ritual, among many other things. In fact, hundreds of years after the Etruscans had been conquered by the Romans and absorbed into their empire, the Romans still maintained an Etruscan priesthood in Rome (which they thought necessary to consult when under attack from invading “barbarians”). We even derive our very common word “person’” from the Etruscan mythological figure Phersu—the frightful, masked figure you see in this Early Etruscan tomb painting who would engage his victims in a dreadful “game” of blood letting in order to appease the soul of the deceased (the original gladiatorial games, according to the Romans!). Early on the Etruscans developed a vibrant artistic and architectural culture, one that was often in dialogue with other Mediterranean civilizations. Trading of the many natural mineral resources found in Tuscany, the center of ancient Etruria, caused them to bump up against Greeks, Phoenicians, and Egyptians in the Mediterranean. With these other Mediterranean cultures, they exchanged goods, ideas, and, often, a shared artistic vocabulary. Unlike the Greeks, however, the majority of our knowledge about Etruscan art comes largely from their burials. (Since most Etruscan cities are still inhabited, they hide their Etruscan art and architecture under Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance layers.) Fortunately, though, the Etruscans cared very much about equipping their dead with everything necessary for the afterlife—from lively tomb paintings to sculpture to pottery that they could use in the next world. From their extensive cemeteries, we can look at the “world of the dead” and begin to understand some about the “world of the living.” During the early phases of the Etruscan civilization, they conceived of the afterlife in terms of life as they knew it. When someone died, he or she would be cremated and provided with another “home” for the afterlife. ​This type of hut urn, made of an unrefined clay known as impasto, would be used to house the cremated remains of the deceased. Not coincidentally, it shows us in miniature form what a typical Etruscan house would have looked like in Iron Age Etruria—oval with a timber roof and a smoke hole for an internal hearth. Later on, houses for the dead became much more elaborate. During the Orientalizing period, when the Etruscans began to trade their natural resources with other Mediterranean cultures and became staggeringly wealthy as a result, their tombs became more and more opulent. #archaeohistories

The last time an El Niño this strong hit, it killed 50 million people. That was 3 to 4% of the entire world population. Scale that to today and you're looking at 250 million equivalent. The 1877 Super El Niño triggered simultaneous droughts across India, China, Brazil, and East Africa. Crops failed on four continents at the same time. The famine lasted three years. Researchers have called it "arguably the worst environmental disaster to ever befall humanity." NOAA's latest update gives a two-in-three chance this one reaches strong or very strong by fall. European models are even more aggressive. Sea surface temperatures need to exceed 2°C above normal to qualify as "super." The trajectory is pointing directly at that threshold. Here's what makes 2026 structurally different from every previous Super El Niño: there are two independent supply shocks converging on the same crop cycle. The Iran war has shut down roughly a third of the world's seaborne fertilizer trade through the Strait of Hormuz. US fertilizer supply was at 75% of normal in mid-March, right when the Corn Belt needed it most. Fertilizer prices hit their highest level since 2022. That input shortage is already baked into the 2026 growing season. The El Niño yield shock operates on a 6 to 12 month lag. India is forecasting below-normal monsoons for the first time in three years. Indonesia and Malaysia carry 90% of global palm oil, and El Niño production declines in those countries take 6 to 24 months to peak. Every strong El Niño in the past 55 years has reduced global cocoa production. So the fertilizer shortage weakens the crops El Niño is about to stress, and the El Niño yield collapse hits in 2027 on fields that were already under-fertilized in 2026. Two shocks with nearly identical lag structures, converging on the same harvest window. The difference between 1877 and 2026: we can see this one coming six months out. The commodity futures curve is barely pricing either shock. Whether that's rational discounting or willful denial depends entirely on what the Pacific Ocean does between now and October.

L’attentatore di Modena non è semplicemente un disturbato psichico, proprio come i maranza non sono dei semplici delinquenti di periferia: Salim El Koudri e i maranza sono i sintomi di una malattia che, se non curiamo subito, ci distruggerà proprio come sta distruggendo la Francia oggi. Fatti come quelli di Modena infatti oggi in Francia sono la quotidianità. E lo sono anche le rivolte delle banlieues e la guerra civile permanente, iniziata proprio 20-30 anni fa con il proliferare delle "racailles", i maranza francesi. È ovvio che chi commette un'azione come quella di Modena non sia a posto con la testa. Ma non è il disturbo psichico o il disagio la motivazione che spinge i vari Salim ad agire: è l’origine di questo disagio nonché al servizio di che cosa viene messo e da chi viene utilizzato. Se questo disagio tra le comunità immigrate esiste è a causa di chi ha favorito per decenni immigrazione incontrollata facendo credere che abbandonando la propria terra di origine per una nuova terra avrebbero trovato un Eldorado che non esisteva, ricreando a queste persone la stessa condizione di frustrazione peraltro in un luogo che non è il loro, dunque lasciandoli sradicati e in cerca di un'identità che il luogo di accoglienza non offre perché noi "autoctoni" siamo stati i primi a cancellarla. Risultato? Queste persone, ovviamente, cercano di riagganciarsi alla loro identità originaria sposandone una versione più dura, radicale e vendicativa. Terreno fertile per la radicalizzazione identitaria a matrice islamica per un motivo molto semplice: ci sono organizzazioni straniere, di influenza o proprio terroristiche, che sfruttano la massa migratoria presente nei paesi europei operando all'interno delle comunità immigrate per individuare fragilità e disagi e utilizzarle per fomentare lo scontro di civiltà e arruolarne i soldati che lo devono mettere in atto. Vittime e protagonisti di tutto ciò sono le seconde/terze generazioni di immigrati, in molti casi più sensibili alla radicalizzazione rispetto ai loro padri, nonostante a differenza di questi ultimi siano nati e cresciuti da noi, abbiano frequentato le nostre scuole, si siano laureati nelle nostre università. Smontando la favola progressista dell'integrazione naturale. Essendo, almeno sulla carta, cittadini europei è impossibile allo stato attuale privarli dei diritti acquisiti e rispedirli nei propri paesi di origine. Rendendo anche soluzioni radicali come la remigrazione attualmente impossibili. Un argine importantissimo resta dunque il filtro dello Ius Sanguinis: ad aver portato la Francia di oggi all'autodistruzione sociale è infatti proprio lo Ius Soli che ha reso tutta questa gente automaticamente cittadina e perciò intoccabile. Ma, se nel 2027 la sinistra andrà al potere, la prima cosa che farà sarà appunto porte fine allo Ius Sanguinis e introdurre lo Ius Soli. Lo ha sempre detto e se ci riuscirà sarà la fine dell'Italia che nel giro di pochi anni si ritroverà a essere come la Francia di oggi: un inferno.

Ho il brevetto da sub. “Là sotto” perfino al più irriducibile ateo viene da dirsi che deve esserci un Dio, qualcosa di soprannaturale che è stato capace di creare tanta bellezza. L’immensità. E non ti fermi più, vuoi di più, sempre di più. A Sharm, durante un’immersione (tra l’altro affatto pericolosa e a bassa profondità), fui colta da quello che in gergo si chiama panic response. Se ne accorse la guida e piano piano mi fece risalire in superficie per quei pochi metri. Non mi sono mai più immersa, mi limito allo snorkeling, ho riconosciuto i miei limiti. Continuo ad invidiare chi ha il coraggio di andare “là sotto”, nell’immensità che, però, bisogna sempre tenere presente che è tanto più grande di noi.
