@alleneubank I don't think IDEs are dying, they're just no longer the center of the workflow. AI agents, terminals, and lightweight editors have shifted where the real work happens. It really does feel like the end of an era and the start of a new one.

JetBrains makes top-tier tooling: DataGrip, RubyMine, IntelliJ, GoLand, Rider, PhpStorm. Really, I owe them a great deal of credit to my own success. Their tools were always ahead of the curve in terms of "it just worked." I highly recommend them still to engineers who are starting it out and want a batteries included IDE for their environments. In era of agentic engineering, I haven't opened one of their apps in over a year. I finally cancelled my JetBrains sub after 10 years. Now, I find myself using only a terminal: My own custom built one based on Ghostty called Sox or vanilla Ghostty or the default Terminal. Nvim or Vscode for code review or minor edits. Times are a changing...

Forgot to mention that my instructions use a forked version of hunk that has some sane defaults when loading agent notes instead of having to remember to add the args every time. github.com/modem-dev/hunk… I hope to upstream this UX change soon.

My claude leaving me notes in my diff using hunk. Agents can now annotate the diffs for reviewing providing extra context for you. Hunk is also extremely easy to use and supports mouse events in the terminal. I highly recommend hunk.
