Re my thoughts on @RobertKennedyJr, Science must remain THE cornerstone of our nation’s health policy and the science-backed decision to get vaccinated improves public health and safety. But if as a country we follow the science we would also be far more concerned about the impact of pesticides on public health, ag policy on nutrition, and the lack of access to prescription drugs due to drug high prices. This is why I am for a major shake-up in institutions like the FDA that have been barriers to lowering drug costs and promoting healthy food choices. Lest there by any doubt, I am vaccinated as is my family. I will hold any HHS Secretary to the same high standard of protecting and improving public health.

@KatiePhang This is guardrails thinking. In binding immunity to authority, SCOTUS ensured that only the President’s voice matters. The Cabinet’s sole purpose is now to disseminate orders. He could leave the positions vacant and dictate to the deputies, and it would be functionally the same.

Putting aside the ethical and moral considerations, Matt Gaetz doesn’t even possess the basic legal skills and experience to be the AG.

@AnthonyMKreis Recess appointment and chill. The question is how the Senate plans to enforce the constitution without relying on Gaetz’s DOJ. Who leads departments and their constitutional status is irrelevant now. If Trump is who orders it, it’s legal to carry out.

@DominicJPino Yes, Gaetz’s inexperience is 100% the issue here. Congratulations on your very astute analysis.

Can we stop picking House members for cabinet positions, I'm getting a little concerned for the majority required to do what's needed this term.

The main issue with Matt Gaetz is that he used his office to prosecute his political opponents and authorized federal agents to harass parents who were peacefully protesting at school board meetings. Oh wait, that's actually Merrick Garland, the current attorney general.

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will have to divest their business holdings if they want to join the Trump administration, to avoid violating conflict-of-interest laws. So if Elon takes a job, could he be forced to sell his stock in Tesla? Or could he be forced to sell Twitter?

@jthousandaire @OsitaNwanevu Maybe in retrospect, but by 2008 Dems had long abandoned expansive platforms. A Dem winning on economic credibility by going against the grain of Clinton and Reagan was not obvious. Clear as his governing shortfalls are now, 2008 is rightly a masterclass in winning by going big.

Will Biden use his final 2 months and massive powers as President to at least protect democracy from Trump’s full scale assault or just amble off listless into the sunset?

Birthright citizenship is a foundational concept in American constitutional law. It is a betrayal of the 14th Amendment to suggest otherwise or that it can be discarded with ease. We settled any doubt about this in Wong Kim Ark in 1898. We should not budge one solitary inch.

@ManuclearBomb Beyond the substance of a bandaid vs a reform, the former is just not as inspiring as a platform. When the big forgiveness got held up in court, his response should have been to breathe fire on Congress for higher education funding. An ambitious underdog is always more exciting.

People always like to run with Biden’s forgiveness amount, which isn’t nothing, but most importantly *doesn’t address the actual problem* of so many Americans being in debt needlessly. Juxtapose that to every public university having contracts with Israel and the issue is plain
LGBTQ for Dems@LGBTQPete

The far left made student loan forgiveness one of the most toxic policies possible. The right hates it, of course. And even though Biden canceled $4.5 billion the left never gave him credit. No politician will ever want to touch that again.
