Re my thoughts on @RobertKennedyJr, Science must remain THE cornerstone of our nation’s health policy and the science-backed decision to get vaccinated improves public health and safety. But if as a country we follow the science we would also be far more concerned about the impact of pesticides on public health, ag policy on nutrition, and the lack of access to prescription drugs due to drug high prices. This is why I am for a major shake-up in institutions like the FDA that have been barriers to lowering drug costs and promoting healthy food choices. Lest there by any doubt, I am vaccinated as is my family. I will hold any HHS Secretary to the same high standard of protecting and improving public health.

In binding immunity to authority, SCOTUS ensured that only the President’s voice matters. The Cabinet’s sole purpose is now to disseminate orders. He could leave the positions vacant and dictate to the deputies, and it would be functionally the same.

Who leads departments and their constitutional status is irrelevant now. If Trump is who orders it, it’s legal to carry out.

@jthousandaire @OsitaNwanevu Maybe in retrospect, but by 2008 Dems had long abandoned expansive platforms. A Dem winning on economic credibility by going against the grain of Clinton and Reagan was not obvious.
Clear as his governing shortfalls are now, 2008 is rightly a masterclass in winning by going big.

Birthright citizenship is a foundational concept in American constitutional law. It is a betrayal of the 14th Amendment to suggest otherwise or that it can be discarded with ease. We settled any doubt about this in Wong Kim Ark in 1898. We should not budge one solitary inch.

@ManuclearBomb Beyond the substance of a bandaid vs a reform, the former is just not as inspiring as a platform. When the big forgiveness got held up in court, his response should have been to breathe fire on Congress for higher education funding. An ambitious underdog is always more exciting.
