So why are we rewarding people that make shitty investments that are contingent on the pyramid scheme that is franchise sports values? The whitecaps ownership does not deserve to profit from BC Place. If the whitecaps want to leave, then good riddance. Don’t need them.

Spain committed 105 fouls and received 6 yellow cards and 0 red cards. Argentina committed 109 fouls and received 14 yellow cards and 1 red card.

@ChesterM222 That’s how it usually works. If not, the new owners might be tempted to knock down the stadium in future to build condos and cash out. Leasing the land and selling the building is the only way if they are going to sell the building and not lease it.

I dunno how this would work but personally would want the province to maintain ownership of the land and sell building to a primary tenant and lease the land to them? Is that insane? In terms of Lions v Whitecaps feels like should just be a highest bidder wins situation but with each promising survivable terms for the other

@Kadaeline_ Sounds like Carlos Tevez agrees with most people that Argentina did not deserve to be in the final. It wasn’t normal. Many other teams were better.

🇦🇷🗣️ Carlos Tevez: The way Argentina played against Spain didn't feel normal to me. Argentina simply doesn't lose like that, especially in a World Cup final. You could see it on the players' faces in the tunnel, they looked mentally broken. It felt as if everything had already been decided before the match even kicked off. I hope that one day everyone will come forward and tell the truth. People will know everything eventually.

After the World Cup I started thinking that a good way to promote #CANZUK might be to have a football tournament every 4 years with Canada, Australia, NZ, Wales, Scotland, England, Northern Ireland + a guest country for balance. Could this work?

@ChannelJuanNews Why is the only way to measure growth by promotion to you? NFL has grown exponentially. It didn’t get promoted. EPL has grown to the most popular league in the world. It didn’t get promoted to that. It earned that by TV deals and $$$$.

Saying “only players should have upward mobility” is like saying employees should get promoted, but companies should never be allowed to grow. We reward people and institutions in virtually every competitive market. Universities compete. Businesses compete. Hospitals compete. Cities compete. Why should soccer clubs be the only institutions permanently assigned to a tier regardless of performance?

@rodmickleburgh As a BC Taxpayer, I am fully in favour of this. BC Place is poorly managed by a bloated crown corporation and has done nothing but cost the province money.

@ChrisParry The Whitecaps paid $50000 for him so a pretty good return. He also helped turn vwfc into a top team in the league while being underpaid and could have left on a free in few months. Very good deal for all involved.

@AlamoCitySC Why are MLB, NBA, NHL so intense compared to international leagues of the same sports. None of those leagues have pro/rel whereas their international counterparts do. Maybe, it is more about money than anything else. EPL teams get $200 mil per year from tv. MLS get team get 8.

@TopMGSzn You’re right. It doesn’t sound like a conspiracy theory anymore. It sounds like whining from a team that knew that they weren’t good enough and proved that by the way that they played. Most likely, they were told that they wouldn’t get any more favours from the officiating.

This doesn't even sound like a conspiracy anymore. Something clearly happened behind the scenes before the World Cup Final. Too many things don't add up. • Scaloni arrived at the stadium and got off the team bus in tears. • Messi "missed" every shot in the warm-up. In over 20 years, I genuinely can't remember ever seeing that. Was he doing it deliberately, or was his mind somewhere else? • Messi's family didn't even come to the stadium despite living in Miami. • The entire squad walked out of the dressing room with their heads down, completely shaken up. Enzo and Licha were both seen crying. • Messi was heard saying: "Let's forget about everything. Let's just play. Forget about everything." Everyone around him looked devastated. • Scaloni completely abandoned the tactical approach that had worked throughout the tournament, leaving the midfield exposed against a team whose biggest strength is midfield control. Messi and Julián were isolated all game. • Argentina had 0 shots on target in 90 minutes, yet Lautaro, one of their biggest attacking weapons, never came on. • Both Cuti Romero and Lisandro Martínez asked to be substituted because of "injuries", yet neither looked to be in obvious pain. These are arguably the two toughest players in the squad. Interestingly, both also ignored Trump during the trophy presentation. • Spain committed over 20 fouls without receiving a single card. Oyarzabal's challenge on Messi's knee and Cucurella's foul on Simeone were both obvious booking opportunities. • Cucurella also somehow escaped a red after covering his mouth during a confrontation with Messi. • Even Spain's celebrations felt strangely subdued. From a neutral perspective, that's understandable given Argentina never really put on a fight. This isn't meant to take anything away from Spain. They were World Cup favourites for a reason and fully deserved the title based on what happened on the pitch. But I've watched this Argentina team since 2021, and I've never seen anything remotely like Sunday. This team's identity has always been its passion, intensity and willingness to fight for every ball. None of that was there. I'm not claiming to know what happened. Maybe it was connected to the Malvinas incident. Maybe there was pressure from someone powerful. Maybe it involved their families. Maybe it was something else entirely. But I refuse to believe that what we watched was simply Argentina having an off day. Too many signs pointed to a squad that looked emotionally broken before the match had even kicked off. I just hope that one day we find out what really happened behind the scenes.

I get that the final FIFA game was in America. But to play YOUR national anthem at a game where no player is American was....I'll say short sighted. Why not play the National Anthems of...oh I dunno...Argentina and Spain?

@mitchellvii I think a lot of Americans do like soccer though. It is the number 1 participation sport, tv ratings were massive, attendance was massive and MLS is the fastest growing professional sports league in North America. It’s not for everyone of course but the demand is there.

Watching the World Cup finale was like watching a Super Bowl where the final score was 3-0 on the final field goal of the game. That's why Americans don't like soccer.
