@jontweetssports @BillClements33 Neither Oklahoma nor Alabama were good last year

@TreyKnowsBall Saban offered him a promotion / raise
He turned him down to take less money and a less school
Saban took personal

Can anyone explain to me why Saban seems to hate coach Cig?

Context matters. I covered Mark throughout his high school career and well into his collegiate career to this point, and I had the opportunity to speak with his father several times.
That’s a low blow, and absolutely anyone would be upset by the disrespect of a loved one.

Miami's Mark Fletcher Jr. and Indiana's Tyrique Tucker had to be separated after the CFP National Championship game.

@ESPN_BillC @DontAtMeBum @SickosCommittee The 2nd half was definitely back and forth, but they quite literally never trailed.
English

@DontAtMeBum @SickosCommittee They were in control for half the game.

@chrisfallica If they called any of the targeting, PI, roughing penalities this wouldn't have been close. Refs kept Miami in the game

Had a feeling it was going to be pretty low. Basically four plays decided the game. Blocked punt, two 4th downs and 3rd down to Becker.

The most casual take in college football media:
"Cignetti really coached up worst-in-P4 Indiana into a top team in 2 years! No one else has ever done that."
The reality is far more complex and requires a ton of context as to what happened and when it happened.
What Cignetti did, which to be clear is equally impressive, was to completely rebuild Indiana's roster by bringing his best players from JMU and supplementing with the portal
Remember, Cignetti was the recruiting coordinator for Nick Saban from 2007-2011, and had a major role in identifying the talent that won Alabama 3 national titles. The guy has a unique eye for spotting talent.
Of Indiana's 6 All-Americans, every single one was a transfer identified and brought in by Cignetti.
So the reason Indiana could make a historic turnaround, is they made unprecedented use of an unprecedented tool in NIL and the transfer portal, and did the best job nationally of bringing in the right guys.
There were 9 notable players from James Madison that followed Cignetti, with multiple huge impact guys:
Elijah Sarratt (leading WR)
Aiden Fisher (All-American ILB)
D'Angelo Ponds (All-American CB)
Kaelon Black (2nd leading rusher)
Jailin Walker (ILB 2nd leading tackler last year)
James Carpenter (DT drafted 1st round last year)
They supplemented that with tons of other impact transfers, including:
Fernando Mendoza (Cal, Heisman and AA)
Tyrique Tucker (ODU, All-American DT)
Carter Smith (ODU, All-American LT)
Louis Moore (Ole Miss, All-American S)
Pat Coogan (ND, starting C)
Kahlil Benson (Colorado, starting RT)
Roman Hemby (Maryland, leading rusher)
Stephen Daley (Kent State, sack leader)
EJ Williams (Clemson, starting WR)
Riley Nowakowski (Wisconsin, starting TE)
Devan Boykin (NC State, starting NB)
All told, 14 out of 22 Indiana starters were transfers brought in by Cignetti. Like FSU with Jared Verse in 2023, most of those guys have exploded in their second year after transferring.

@AlafrigginBama Alabama is not a different monster. At best they're on the same level as Oregon and Ohio State, which is still probably a stretch.
English

Watched a few Indiana ball games today.
What popped?
- Indiana does not make mistakes, Mendoza rarely forces anything, but did create his own pressure when routes are covered at Cal
- Very efficient on rushing and passing downs
- Very consistent in all aspects of their offense, credit to Mike Shanahan
- Great communication and continuity along the O-line that allows for balance
Alabama is a little different monster than they’ve seen this year. The Tide will need to play a complete game, which I think they’re due.
English

Folks still sleeping on Bama’s chances it seems

CFP Championship Favorites on Kalshi: 32% — Ohio State 21% — Indiana 17% — Georgia 11% — Oregon 11% — Texas Tech 6% — Alabama 5% — Miami 4% — Ole Miss Who’s taking it?

@idoc17 @HoosierHaze The difference between 6th and 28th SoS is like one game difference. It's really not that significant
English

@briancwalton78 @CFBackers @BuckeyeBackers @OhioStateFB Specifically said that about Maryland, because they committed to stopping the pass exclusively.
English

@CD_R0M_ @CFBackers @BuckeyeBackers @OhioStateFB Our QB didn’t get on national TV and tell the world we were going to run it down your throats…and then forget to tell everyone about these other games….

🚨Indiana Run Game is 🐩💩🚨
Fernando "Noodle Arm" Mendoza talked a big game after the Maryland game when they ran for 367 yards on 7.1 yards a clip. But Maryland finished the season ranked #104 in rush defense.
Indiana finished the season ranked #9 in the country in Rush Offense and #11 in Rushing Average. But as Lee Corso used to say: "Not So Fast My Friend."
They have faced probably the easiest rush defenses all season. Some of those defenses:
FCS Indiana State
#64 Michigan State
#65 Old Dominion
#98 Kennesaw State
#104 Maryland
#112 Purdue
#120 UCLA
But what happened when they played good Run Defenses? They folded like a cheap lawn chair.
#18 Wisconsin: 83 Yards | 2.2 AVG
#20 Oregon: 111 Yards | 3.0 AVG
#24 Iowa: 104 Yards | 2.7 AVG
#71 Penn State: 108 Yards | 3.5 AVG
Just a reminder: Ohio State is Ranked #4 in Run Defense and #5 in Yards Per Attempt Allowed.
They just completely dismantled another @JoeMooreAward Semifinalist last week and I would argue @UMichFootball has a better run game than Indiana.
