@jetskitosway2 i have a ticket stub that says i watched the Penelope Spheeris comedy "Senseless," starring Marlon Wayas, David Spade, and Matthew Lillard, in the theater on July 17, 1999, yet I have no memory of this movie existing whatsoever (i quit smoking weed in early 2001)

what's interesting about the rock and roll hall of fame now is how they don't want anyone from the 2000s yet, are more stingy with 90s artists than i expected, and are increasingly generous with artists whose defining music was in the 80s and have been eligible for 10-20 years

@iycrtylph learning that he was such a goofy weirdo made me like his films more! they are truly odd works; on the surface, as simple and straightforward as a fairytale; and yet they're also thematically thorny and structurally bizarre and often patience-testing and exasperating! i love them

maybe this is idiosyncratic, but learning about Éric Rohmer's personal life—the fact that he was a devout Catholic, that he hid his filmmaking career from his mother, that he never cheated on his wife—really turned me off his films
