Mainzer: In the U.S., our energy markets do not function well if they do not sit on a foundation of resource adequacy: getting new projects on the grid is critical. Large load customers: stay engaged in CAISO's interconnection queue process and in the ROWE stakeholder process!

Looking out 5-10 years... Mainzer: would like to see the day-ahead market expanded as widely as possible and utilities actively participating. Additionally, an independently operating ROWE! There are 17,000 MW of batteries operating on California's system. With the ROWE, there is a real opportunity to expand storage across the West and build a robust load flexibility paradigm.

What happens if we don't get this right? Mainzer: we have seen some crazy volatility on the system in the last few years, especially extreme heat and cold snaps. It's crucial not to fragment the grid - a wide, diverse, coordinated system is key to ensuring reliable, dispatchable power.
