@instapaper Literally two days before this release I was doing some processing in Instapaper and lamenting that the TTS hadn’t caught up to modern state-of-the-art speech synthesis. Congrats on shipping, and thanks for continuing to bring thoughtful, modest (in a good way) improvements!

Dear @readwise, consider at least hosting yours on Smithery or something officially, given that it should logically be remote anyway. Though I would welcome an MCP Bundle distribution in the meantime, thanks 💕

Smart play by Docker with MCP Toolkit to provide the—albeit developer-centric—type of 2024 distribution that these things should have had in the first place.

@mikeschinkel It was not my intent to be smug or condescending, no, so I’m sorry if I have come across that way.

@ches If you actually understood my point, then you did not need to make the point you made in your tweet. That is, unless what you really wanted to do was not to help but instead be a condescending smugsplainer.

Today we're thrilled to announce our effort to port the TypeScript compiler and language service to native code, gaining a 10x speed boost in build times and editor responsiveness! devblogs.microsoft.com/typescript/typ…

@mikeschinkel I understood your point, my 2nd line addressed that. To build native executables they would need a runtime, garbage collector, etc. Cross-platform implementation. It’s just a whole different scope of project, and existing JS runtime projects like V8 are highly optimized already.

@ches My point was why doesn't Microsoftgive Typescript the option to compile to native code in part of make Typescript a fully-formed language in its own right vs. just a transpiler to JavaScript, but also for the likely performance it could gain? 🤷‍♂️

@mikeschinkel The current compiler *is* written in TypeScript. TS targets JS to run on existing JS runtimes, implementing a runtime for native executables would be a fundamental expansion of the project scope vs. this language port of the compiler.

@typescript As a Go developer I love to hear this! OTOH, I still wonder why your team does not just create an optional native compiler for TypeScript, and then write your compiler in TypeScript itself? Dog fooding and all? 🤷‍♂️

Sometimes I imagine an internal Radar at @Apple with a million votes titled “Users complain that Esc exits full screen”, where some greybeard interaction designer stands steadfastly on top of this hill, willing to die on it, yelling that it is *The Path of Righteousness*.

I have no idea how to code. I have lots of ideas. I have been working on a few app ideas with AI and building in Xcode but I don’t have a clue about framing and building the visual interface. Or that is to say getting what’s in my head onto the screen. What tools do you recommend for this?

No longer hiring junior or even mid-level software engineers. Our tokens per codebase: Gumroad: 2M Flexile: 800K Helper: 500K Iffy: 200K Shortest: 100K Both Claude 3.5 Sonnet and o3-mini have context windows of 200K tokens, meaning they can now write 100% of our Iffy and Shortest code if prompted well. It won’t be long until AI will be writing all the code for Helper, Flexile, and Gumroad. My guess is by the end of 2026. Our new process: 1. Sit and chat about what we need to build, doing research with Deep Research as we go. 2. Have AI record everything and turn it into a spec. 3. Clean up the spec, adding any design requirements / other nuances. 4. Have Devin code it up. 5. QA, merge, (auto-)deploy to prod.

@iandavisfr @nurijanian Their job performance is evaluated on identifying and qualifying opportunities, selling them within the org, shepherding their execution, and exhibiting ROI. If none of their ideas ever get off the ground, they lose their job for not being effective.

@nurijanian I am foreign the pm world. Why is a pm incentivized to get their product idea’s approved? Clout? If the boss doesn’t want to do it then whatever, right?

Engineers-turned-PMs keep making the same fatal mistake in stakeholder meetings: They think logic will save them. After mentoring a few folks, I've noticed a pattern no one talks about:

Sad to see @FoursquareGuide app finally getting canned, though surprised the split survived this long. I hope they’ll make @SwarmApp a capable exploration tool, I’m smacking my head as we speak that Google Maps nor Apple Maps can filter restaurant results by “Open Right Now”…

Barely used eBay for 20 years and it’s dumbfounding that the norm for things that are auctioned is still a hard time cutoff, which someone always snipes in the final minute. (Even using tools to do it). It’s crappy for bidders, and for sellers who could receive a truer value.
