The Computational Social Science Lab (@csspenn) is cutting through today's cluttered noise with its Media Bias Detector. Led by Duncan Watts, the tool analyzes patterns in article structure and language to reveal similarities across media outlets. “We’ve all experienced the divisiveness pervading popular media,” says Watts. “Our hypothesis is that this is exacerbated not by lies or ‘fake news’ but by bias. It’s a timely question, and in our particular historical moment, CSSLab has these incredible tools—massive new data sets and large language models, in particular—to find an answer. So we threw our energy into investigating.” bit.ly/4cJQzRo

Introducing @Penn_racing's REV 11 Built on the fastest timeline in team history, REV 11 hit the track months earlier than any other car. This efficiency unlocked critical time for testing, validation and performance tuning. From an ultra-adjustable suspension system to a refined power architecture and wireless CAN flashing, every detail is engineered for speed, efficiency and control. Next stop: the Formula SAE Electric competition in Michigan, where student teams design, build and race formula-style electric vehicles.

“When you come to class, just ask one question. Just build up your confidence.”' A simple piece of advice that stuck with @BoonThauLoo, and still shapes how he thinks about learning and innovation. In episode 10 of Penn Engineering's "Innovation & Impact" podcast, @VanessaZChan sits down with three faculty members who were recently named Fellows of @AcadofInventors to discuss what shapes impactful engineers, from embracing uncertainty to learning through failure. bit.ly/4c41jbo

As demand for advanced computing skills continues to grow across industries, Penn Engineering introduces the Master of Applied Science in Computer Science (MAS-CS). Offered in both online and on-campus formats, MAS-CS evolves from the Master of Computer and Information Technology (MCIT), which has helped thousands of students from non-computer science backgrounds transition into computing careers. MAS-CS is the first degree in Penn Engineering’s emerging Master of Applied Science (MAS) portfolio, which emphasizes applied learning, interdisciplinary collaboration and the ability to translate engineering knowledge into real-world impact. MAS-CS applications for the first online cohort are open, with classes beginning in Fall 2026. The residential program will begin accepting applications in Fall 2026. @PennEngOnline / @CIS_Penn bit.ly/41ISGOx

Michael Hicks (@michael_w_hicks), the Cecilia Fitler Moore Professor in @CIS_Penn, returned to Penn Engineering in 2025 after earning his Ph.D. at Penn in 2001. His career in computer science has focused on building safer, more reliable software and strengthening the scientific foundations of cybersecurity research. “Even if your idea doesn’t become the one the world uses directly, it can become the backbone for future innovation,” he says. Read his full highlight today. bit.ly/4qsHUWJ
