Incredibly generous of @SecDebHaaland & @AsstSecTrujillo to spend so much time in Arizona today: visiting tribes, utilities, NGOs & agencies to fully understand need and opportunity to best leverage incredible federal investment.

‘Warm snow drought’ (it rains, does not snow) is a term we will be using often in the years ahead. ‘Dry snow drought’ is what we used to think of when we thought of snow drought - and applies to everywhere here except PNW.
Daniel Swain@Weather_West

Remarkable early-season "#SnowDrought" across essentially the entire American West. SWE <20% of average in Cascades, Sierra Nevada, & Southern Rockies. Interestingly, this includes watersheds in PacNW that have been very wet--pointing to key importance of warming temperatures.

Jeff Lukas@LukasClimate

The other snow seasons in Colorado since 1980 that started this slowly (75%+ of SNOTELs in lowest quartile in early Dec): 2012-2013 1999-2000 1989-1990 Yes, snow is on the way, and the season has a long way to go--but 2021-22 is in a bad neighborhood. #cowx
