You can help keep roads free of debris and obstructions by securing your garbage and recycling carts. If your collection day is the same day as the storm, set your carts out as usual so crews can provide service. After your carts have been emptied, bring them back from the curb when it is safe to do so. If it is NOT your collection day, store carts beside your home or in a garage until the storm passes. Small actions like securing carts help keep streets safe for neighbors and emergency vehicles

911 vs. 311 - Know the Difference during a Storm 📞 Dial 911 for emergencies that need immediate police, fire or medical help — like a fire, downed power lines or serious injury. If a tree or part of a tree has fallen and is obstructing or completely blocking the road, call 911 immediately. Use 311 for non-emergency city services. If a tree or part of a tree has fallen outside the roadway and onto the shoulder, sidewalk or public right-of-way, call 311 or use the CLT+ mobile app to report. After the Storm: Before starting cleanup on your property, look for dangerous hanging limbs, downed utility lines, broken limbs and other failures. Also, block off damaged trees with caution tape, rope and/or traffic cones. Watch out for scammers showing up at your house claiming to be tree specialists. Do your homework, check references and make sure the business is legitimate.

City, Partners Break Ground on Eastland Sports Campus ⚽️ City of Charlotte officials joined development partners and residents to break ground on a $67.1 million amateur sports campus that is expected to be a major economic driver for East Charlotte. Eastland Sports Campus is expected to open in late 2028. Spanning 29 acres at Eastland Yards, ESC will include six full-size multipurpose athletic fields and a 100,000-square-foot indoor center that will include courts for basketball, volleyball or other sports and amenities. “Eastland Sports Campus represents an exciting new chapter for the Eastland Yards redevelopment, bringing new amenities, economic activity and vibrant energy to the area,” Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles said. “This new destination will drive economic impact while serving as a source of pride, not just for East Charlotte, but for our entire city. Smoke Advisory for the Charlotte Area Charlotte Fire Alarm has received an increase in calls reporting smoke in parts of the Charlotte area this afternoon. The smoke is associated with a prescribed burn conducted by Mecklenburg County Natural Resources staff that began around 1 p.m. at the Buckeye Cove Nature Preserve. In addition to that burn, other prescribed burns are taking place today in nearby areas including Gaston County, Huntersville, Lancaster, and Chester County. Smoke from these controlled burns may drift into Charlotte and surrounding communities and may affect air quality in downwind areas for the next two to three hours. Residents may notice the smell of smoke or a light haze in the air during this time. To reduce exposure, consider staying indoors or avoiding areas where smoke may be heavier. Charlotte Fire reminds residents that if you see flames, heavy smoke coming from a structure, or believe there is an emergency, you should still call 911 immediately. Reporting potential fires remains critical to ensuring a quick response to actual emergencies.

The Charlotte City Council closed its annual strategy meeting with a renewed focus on trust, transparency and execution, as elected officials and senior staff outlined priorities for public safety, mobility, housing and economic growth heading into the next budget cycle. Over two days of discussions, council members emphasized the importance of strengthening working relationships amid heightened political pressure and rapid population growth. Conversations centered on what defines a high-performing governing body, with members citing competence, transparency, benevolence and reliability as core factors in building trust.
