Solid Waste Services will not collect garbage, recycling, yard waste and scheduled bulky waste on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. This holiday follows an updated collection pattern this year. Details include: • No collection on the holiday (Monday). • Crews will begin service on Tuesday and work through Friday to complete all routes. • No Saturday collection. • No yard waste will be collected during this week, so crews can focus on completing garbage and recycling routes. These measures are an important step to reduce non-essential water use and ensure we can meet the needs of our growing community, especially during changing conditions. The Queen City and economic development go hand in hand! Today, @NC_Governor announced one of Japan’s largest financial institutions, SMBC Group, will establish its second U.S. headquarters in Charlotte. The company plans to create 2,000 jobs over six years and invest $50.5 million in Mecklenburg County. This is one of the largest economic development announcements in Charlotte's history. SMBC plans to hire about 1,800 employees locally with the remainder relocating to Charlotte. “As SMBC continues to grow substantially in the United States, Charlotte is a standout location for us to invest in North Carolina for the long term in a major expansion that will establish our roots in the community,” Hirofumi Otsuka, CEO for SMBC Americas, said. The sun is setting on your opportunity to provide feedback on the city's Fiscal Year 2027 budget! Today (April 6) is the LAST DAY to take the budget survey. Visit cltgov.me/budgetsurvey and submit your priorities before the midnight deadline!

Solid Waste Services will be operating on its regular schedule on Good Friday. Be sure that carts are at the curb no later than 6 a.m. on collection day. It is a green recycling collection week. Find more information about the city's holiday collection schedule at curbit.charlottenc.gov.

You can help keep roads free of debris and obstructions by securing your garbage and recycling carts. If your collection day is the same day as the storm, set your carts out as usual so crews can provide service. After your carts have been emptied, bring them back from the curb when it is safe to do so. If it is NOT your collection day, store carts beside your home or in a garage until the storm passes. Small actions like securing carts help keep streets safe for neighbors and emergency vehicles

911 vs. 311 - Know the Difference during a Storm 📞 Dial 911 for emergencies that need immediate police, fire or medical help — like a fire, downed power lines or serious injury. If a tree or part of a tree has fallen and is obstructing or completely blocking the road, call 911 immediately. Use 311 for non-emergency city services. If a tree or part of a tree has fallen outside the roadway and onto the shoulder, sidewalk or public right-of-way, call 311 or use the CLT+ mobile app to report. After the Storm: Before starting cleanup on your property, look for dangerous hanging limbs, downed utility lines, broken limbs and other failures. Also, block off damaged trees with caution tape, rope and/or traffic cones. Watch out for scammers showing up at your house claiming to be tree specialists. Do your homework, check references and make sure the business is legitimate.

CharMeckALERT: EXTREME WIND & TORNADO RISK TODAY Charlotte-Mecklenburg is at extreme risk for severe winds and possible tornadoes today. Wind gusts may be up to 30 mph throughout the day. Remember: If a tornado WATCH is issued, find your "safe space". Look for an interior room with no windows (like a closet or bathroom) at home or work. If a tornado WARNING is issued, move to your safe space immediately and wait for further instructions.
