How about going to Lisbon in September 2026 for @europeanisa? In the framework of the section “Knowing War: What do we Know About our Knowledge of War?” convened by @CLibiseller and Vladimir Rauta, I am interested in building a panel on the analysis of military operations. What « works » in warfare? What doesn’t? And crucially: how do we know? My intuition is that a lot of military theory is built on very weak epistemological and empirical foundations, and that approaches such as operations research or campaign analysis have built-in assumptions which make them highly problematic (and of limited utility). But let’s discuss it! Contact me if you are interested in contributing to a full panel.
