How did McDuffie get defined as the continuity candidate? Both he and JLG are on the Council. They’re both progressive. Is it just their tone and Janesse’s DSA brand in contrast?

You could hardly ask for two candidates more emblematic of these strains. McDuffie: unimaginative, in hock to his backers, the continuity candidate. JLG: smart, inspiration-maxxing, repudiates the compromises of the present, eager to join the fight against Trumpism (in a bad way)

Both leading candidates have now come out in favor of upzoning DC
The question is how much of this just rhetoric? Does this conviction wither in the the face of a highly vocal but narrow NIMBY opposition?
And maybe most importantly, how many strings are attached to upzoning?

DC's housing shortage is driving our affordability crisis — and we need to act like it. We cannot address the crisis while banning rowhomes and apartments across much of DC and codifying exclusion. There are too many missed opportunities here for a plan meant to get us to 2050.
