SPF3 can’t protect you from the summer sun, and 3 privacy laws aren’t sufficient protection for all Americans. It’s time the U.S has comprehensive coverage. #DataProtection #Privacy #3Down47ToGo

As a Virginian I'm excited to wake up to the news that my fundamental right to privacy is being respected! I hope it proves to be a step on the path to securing these rights for everyone in the US.
Julie Brill@JulieSBrill

Congratulations to Virginia for passing a comprehensive privacy bill. Microsoft has long believed there is an urgent need to modernize US privacy laws. We’re encouraged by this progress and the new protections this law creates. 👏 👏 👏

This event on redress for privacy harms is going to be great. It was amazing how far I was into my legal career before I realized it wasn't enough to make something illegal - you had figure out what to do about violations of the law, especially civil violations.

This should be a lively discussion. Please join @rcalo, @TerrellMcSweeny, @FTCPhillips, @scholzlauren and me tomorrow at 3 pm ET/noon PT: techpolicylab.uw.edu/events/event/u… Cc: @PrivacyPros, @TechPolicyLab, @UWSchoolofLaw

Thanks Julie! It's exciting and humbling to work to protect #privacy at the scale that Microsoft operates. I'm looking forward learning a lot and helping to advance privacy as a human right.

We can debate how serious a privacy threat TikTok presents to the average user, but wherever you come down on that, the idea that a president can unilaterally shut down a speech platform used by millions of Americans on a month’s notice should be appalling.

Much of what’s being sold as "AI" today is snake oil. It does not and cannot work. In a talk at MIT yesterday, I described why this happening, how we can recognize flawed AI claims, and push back. Here are my annotated slides: cs.princeton.edu/~arvindn/talks…

There is *so* much more to do, but I’m deeply proud of @CenDemTech’s partnership with @ColorofChange & other civil rights groups to better address discrimination on @Airbnb. There are good lessons in this partnership model, and I hope more will follow 👇
ColorOfChange@ColorOfChange

In partnership with @Airbnb, we are launching Project Lighthouse. This groundbreaking effort has been nearly 2 years in the making. It will collect the data needed to measure and evaluate discrimination on the platform in the US, and then take action against it.

Glad to see this suit from @CenDemTech. The executive order certainly raises serious First Amendment concerns. The whole point of it is to discourage social media companies from engaging in activity and speech that is constitutionally protected.
Center for Democracy & Technology@CenDemTech

🚨 BREAKING: Today, we've taken a critical & necessary stand for the First Amendment. @CenDemTech filed a lawsuit against @POTUS' “Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship,” which violates 1A by chilling constitutionally protected speech of online platforms & individuals.

6(b) studies are done without a specific law enforcement purpose. That suggests this is about understanding whether tech firms are gaming the merger review system. If the FTC wants to unwind a deal it thinks is anticompetitive, it doesn’t do that through a 6(b). #antitrust
