🔥On this International Firefighter’s Day we’re reminded of what it means to show up for people on their worst days. But it’s also about carrying the names of those who didn’t make it home.
Today we honor both. 🔥

Thank you to our @CSFDPIO Wildfire Mitigation Section for the critical work you do to keep @CityofCOS safe.
Since the Waldo Canyon Fire, this team has more than doubled its reach—expanding from 66 to 143 neighborhoods and homeowner associations in the wildland urban interface—and increased the total of annual acres mitigated by 60%.
That work is making a real difference.
Let’s not grow complacent. Even with recent rain, fire danger remains high. Preparedness is a shared responsibility.
They’re doing their part. Now it’s our turn.

A bear-y good morning to you all! 🐻
While you were sleeping Truck 8 got a call from our friends at @CPW_SW for a bear “zonked out in a tree and stuck” (their words😉) on Crooked Arrow Ln.
Truck 8 and Battalion 2 responded and after some teamwork and patience the little bear was safely brought to the CPW vehicle and taken to a safe spot for relocation.
We’re happy to report the bear was healthy but a little sleepy when we said our goodbyes. It’s always great teaming up with our local wildlife experts to help keep those members of our community safe!

In Colorado Springs, intentional fire setting is not a prank, it’s not “kids being kids,” and it's not a harmless mistake.
The conditions we’re seeing right now and the conditions we saw when all of these fires were set – it's how wildfires start.
To those responsible: This is not a joke. This is not a mistake. You are putting lives, homes, and our city at risk. Parents, talk to your kids today. Fire-setting is not harmless, and it is not a prank.
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 — 𝐰𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩.
You are our eyes and ears in the neighborhoods we serve. If you see suspicious activity, report it. If you know something, say something. Information can be reported anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 719-634-7867.
It only takes one bad decision to change everything. Let’s not get there.
