@howie_hua I’ve done this! A fun lesson to do with kids! Then they test it and have a snack!

This video from @gfletchy explains multiplication from 2nd to 5th grades and applies to middle and high school teachers too (think: distributive property, polynomial multiplication, etc.). gfletchy.com/2015/12/18/the… #MTBoS

@howie_hua I love relating the idea of solving equations to this representation! Students solve problems like this in early elementary school using part-part-whole models. This could help student relate this new idea to something that they already know.

@howie_hua Divide it in half $70 M, and then divide in half again $35M.

Another application as to why computational understanding is vital!
Courtney Flessner@CFless
Thank you, Kelce brothers, for proving, yet again, that when you teach kids to memorize procedures (Jason) They can’t apply them to basic computation later. When allowed to think about what they know and build from their number sense, they nail it (Travis). This is fluency.

Here's a great "thinker" that will promote sense making and productive struggle!
Greg Tang@gregtangmath
I write a lot of puzzles, but really like this one. Goal? Solve using reasoning & mental math, which means simple equations and arithmetic. Nothing fancy here is needed. Just "sense making" about what each equation means, separately and together. Thanks for posting. Enjoy!

I once heard the term “nice nasty” to describe a person who smiles and says all the right words, but doesn’t align their actions to demonstrate care.
Care is in the hardest moments made easier.
Care is in the spaces where people need a gentle push in the right direction.
Care is an experience of doing best for others.
We all want to be cared for by our leaders.
How will you demonstrate care today?
