@SoxMach_pnoles Or... they always planned on a 2-3 catcher rotation (3 when Quero and Teel are both healthy) and prefer that the third be a defensively strong veteran...available at their preferred price.

@SoxMach_pnoles While we're being crazy, here's a theory. There's another team out there what was deciding between signing McGuire and trading for Lee. Sox pulled trigger first, outbid team for Reese, and now have leverage to trade for better prospects.

An Edgar Quero trade is pretty much the only rationale I can come up with for signing Reese McGuire. I understand that’s unlikely but it’s the only way I’d get it.
