Whoa. Department of Justice officials just confirmed the Liberals' "safety valve" would let judges ignore mandatory minimum sentences if they would jeopardize a criminal's immigration status.

On April 2, Conservatives called for suspending all federal gas taxes to deliver real relief to Canadians and keep costs down through to the end 2026. The Carney Liberals are now attempting to follow our lead, but, as usual, only halfway. They are suspending just a fraction of federal gas taxes, and only until Labour Day, leaving almost two-thirds of those taxes in place for most of the year. It is the same pattern again: copying a Conservative idea, but watering it down.

One person has been arrested following an investigation into a suspicious person incident at uOttawa today. There are no injuries to report and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The investigation remains ongoing. UOttawa has lifted its lockdown, and the incident is being cleared. Ottawa Police thank members of the university community and the public for their cooperation and patience. We recognize the concern this incident caused for students, faculty, staff, and their loved ones. ~ Une personne a été arrêtée à la suite d'une enquête menée aujourd'hui à l'Université d'Ottawa concernant un individu suspect. Ottawa Police Service responded to the University of Ottawa campus today at approximately 4:20 p.m. following reports of a suspicious person in the area. There are no injuries to report. Officers remain on scene and are working with uOttawa security. Updates will follow. ~ Le Service de police d'Ottawa est intervenu aujourd'hui sur le campus de l'Université d'Ottawa vers 16 h 20, à la suite de signalements faisant état d'une personne suspecte dans les environs. Aucun blessé n'est à déplorer. Les agents restent sur place et collaborent avec le service de sécurité de l'Université d'Ottawa. Des informations complémentaires suivront.

Mark Carney is seizing a costly Liberal majority that voters denied him, and doing so through backroom deals. In January, MP Gladu said that floor crossers should face voters in a byelection to give voters the final say. I could not agree more. She should do so. The people in her community voted for our Conservative vision of a Canada that is affordable, safe, and strong at home, not for the costly Liberal government she has now joined. She should honour her word and let voters decide.

Across our military history, Canadians have always stood with courage to fight for what is right. But the Battle of Vimy Ridge was particularly unique. 109 years ago, our young nation proved it was capable of greatness. Canadians showed extraordinary courage against impossible odds, and 3,598 paid the ultimate price. They didn’t fight for recognition. They fought for each other, and for the future of our country. Today, we honour their sacrifice and commit to protecting and defending the Canada they built. Lest we forget.

The Liberals voted down the Jail Not Bail Act, allowing repeat, violent offenders back in our communities. Conservatives will always stand up for the rights of victims and Canadians. Our fight continues.

Disturbing. Did this Liberal MP really just deny that forced labour practices are taking place in China? This is a documented problem. Why is this MP carrying water for the Chinese regime?

Today at Industry Committee, Liberal MP Michael Ma used his time to attack a witness and cast doubt on well-documented human rights and forced labour abuses in Xinjiang. That is unacceptable from any Canadian Member of Parliament. Canadians expect MPs to stand up for human rights, not run cover for the Chinese regime.

Tomorrow I am travelling to the United States to stand up for Canadian workers and fight for tariff-free access to our closest neighbour and the world's largest economy. Canada must continue to make our case on how free trade is a win-win for both the Canadian and American people.

A convicted first-degree murderer is on an UNESCORTED 72-hour release in Oshawa, and police are telling residents to "stay vigilant." Let that sink in. My neighbours in Oshawa shouldn't have to be told to look over their shoulders while a convicted killer gets a weekend pass. Public safety must come first. Always.

Always happy to converse with young Canadians including these from the Conservative campus clubs of Carleton University and Ottawa U. My Conservative MP colleagues and I asked several of them what the important issues are for youth. The big one? They say they want to see the Liberal government cut runaway spending and taxes so life could be more affordable and young Canadians might be able to buy a home one day. Agreed. I am heartbroken over the tragic loss of innocent lives at a local high school in Tumbler Ridge. My deepest condolences go out to the families, students, teachers, and first responders affected by this senseless act of violence. This community is in our hearts, and we stand with you in grief, in prayer, and in hope for healing.
