The Chinese Embassy in Canada pushed back on the allegation that forced labour is used in the production of Chinese electric vehicle components in a social media post Friday night, calling it a “blatant lie” that some are using to undermine the Canada-China EV deal. The comments from the embassy came a day after Ma apologized for a tense exchange during a committee hearing where he asked an expert if she’d seen forced labour in China with her own eyes or if she had relied on “hearsay.” Margaret McCuaig-Johnston, a senior fellow at the University of Ottawa, had told committee members that Chinese vehicles are made with products of slave labour performed by members of the Uyghur minority, referring to research by Human Rights Watch.

China is again denying claims of forced labour in the country as calls grow for Prime Minister Mark Carney to clarify Canada’s stance on the issue amid fallout from comments made by Liberal MP Michael Ma that appeared to cast doubt on reported human rights abuses. ctvnews.ca/politics/artic…

Executive Director @AHakimIdris stated: “China’s campaign against the Uyghur people extends beyond mass detention, forced assimilation, and family separation. It is a systematic assault on truth itself. By silencing survivors, manipulating information, and pressuring governments into complicity, the Chinese state is obstructing international accountability for grave human rights violations. This report stands as both evidence and a call to urgent action.”

Today, the Center for Uyghur Studies (CUS) has released a comprehensive report documenting the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) sophisticated and systematic influence campaign in Southeast Asia. This campaign aims to conceal, deny, and justify the ongoing genocide, human rights abuses, and religious persecution of the Chinese government against the Uyghur people in East Turkistan (AKA the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region). The report, titled “China’s Influence Campaigns in Southeast Asia & Plight of Uyghurs,” examines how Beijing fabricates false narratives, infiltrates institutions, exploits economic leverage, and suppresses dissenting voices to control the narrative surrounding its human rights abuses. uyghurstudy.org/report-chinas-…

Ramadan in 2026 has witnessed a familiar yet alarming surge in enforcement, with reports of over 500 arrests in Hotan alone for "illegal religious activities" such as private fasting or gatherings. Checkpoints proliferate around mosques, and residents face random inspections for halal food or religious texts, creating an atmosphere of constant dread. This "Holy Month Siege" weaponizes the spiritual significance of Ramadan, turning reflection and abstinence into punishable offenses.

Masjid Raya Id Kah di kota Kasghar, Xinjiang tak lagi menggelar sholat Idulfitri. Fungsi masjid hampir 100% telah diubah paksa oleh pemerintah Tiongkok menjadi museum umum. Miris !!! 😭. Padahal tahun 2012 sangat ramai jamaah sholat Idulfitri.

The magazine emerged at a critical historical moment when repressive policies aimed to erase the religious and cultural identity of the Uyghur people. At a time when many Muslim-majority countries were preoccupied with their own political struggles, “Voice of Turkistan” served as a platform led by Uyghur intellectuals in exile, most notably Ibrahim Wasil Turkistani, who documented their history, articulated their political aspirations, and raised awareness about their cause. uyghurstudy.org/center-for-uyg…

Executive Director @AHakimIdris said,“Eid is meant to be a celebration of faith, freedom, and community. Yet for Uyghur Muslims, even the most basic religious practices such as fasting during Ramadan or attending the mosque have become sources of risk for Uyghur, Kazakh, and other Turkic Muslims. There are also reports of Uyghur Muslims being forced to eat pork and drink alcohol. As Muslims around the world celebrate Eid, we must not forget those who remain unable to practice their faith freely.”

The Center for Uyghur Studies (CUS) extends its warmest greetings to Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr 1447/2026. Eid is a time of joy, gratitude, and reflection following the holy month of Ramadan, when families and communities come together to celebrate faith, compassion, and generosity. As Muslims mark this blessed occasion, CUS wishes peace and happiness to Muslims around the world. uyghurstudy.org/center-for-uyg…

This year’s Ramadan once again highlighted the CCP’s religious persecution of Uyghur Muslims. Reports and images circulating on Chinese social media suggested that authorities continued to closely monitor religious activities, with Uyghurs reportedly encouraged or required to participate in daytime gatherings during Ramadan. Such practices contrast sharply with the traditional observance of Ramadan by Uyghur Muslims and reinforce concerns that religious life in the region remains under tight state control. Recent developments further highlight these concerns. China’s National People’s Congress has approved a new “Ethnic Unity” law, set to take effect on July 1, which authorities claim “will promote national cohesion”. However, its broad provisions further enable the criminalization of Uyghur cultural and religious expression, deepening existing repression. This law effectively provides an expanded legal framework to justify ongoing policies of assimilation and repression.
