@Chadwickauthor @DuchessAlienor @PhilippaGBooks Totally agree. There's a difference, too, between historical facts, i.e., writing a novel based on the life of a public figure who's dead, and the memoir of a living person - which is protected under copyright.

@DuchessAlienor @PhilippaGBooks @CWGortner I would say that fiction is fiction and fact is fact and they exist for different purposes. A historical novelist needs to do the research and how are they supposed to do that without reading the non fiction across the board?

What about the concept of fair usage? There are novelists who openly credit the books & articles by renowned historians. Are they not allowed to do that? Can hist novelists weigh in on that because I'm genuinely curious. @PhilippaGBooks @CWGortner @Chadwickauthor
