Fact check: In 2010 the whole of the public sector made up 19.7% of NZ’s total workforce. In 2023 it made up 18.8%. The govt’s talk of “wasteful spending” is mostly a manufactured crisis designed to justify sacking people to pay for tax cuts

Simple, linear solutions are common in healthcare. Something accidentally omitted? Add a tickbox to the checklist. Accidental drug interaction? Add an alert to the system.
But healthcare is #complexity. And until we stop thinking simplistically, patient errors will continue.

My Sister-In-Law made redundant from her “back office” role, that involves booking and rescheduling patient appointments, is training nurses on how to do that job in her last few weeks.
This is National. Using limited frontline services to do the “back office” admin.
