First time checking on the new pond in a couple of weeks. Water has receded quite a bit but is holding in the deepest part of the pond. Diving beetles have found it now. Orchids starting to flower nearby, hopefully in time they will spread to the ground surrounding the pond! 🪲🪻

We used some spare digger time to create a new wetland feature on the reserve. This low ground usually collects water during wet periods and so should make a good ephemeral pond. Looking forward to seeing how it develops 💦🐸🌱

Finally seen our first Sand Martins of the year and more than 100 of them over L74. Willow warblers also singing now too.

An excellent summary of the issues surrounding rare breeding birds that almost negates the need for my annual reminder. However, I’ll briefly request that locations are not published for LRP, Bittern, Marsh Harrier, and Nightingale in the @CotswoldWaterPk 1/2
