We are bringing something important to Manchester this June — the Cultural Hangout Festival, in commemoration of Africa Day 2026. This is not just another event. It is a space for Africans and people of African descent to come together, reconnect and represent. @Oluomoofderby

Silence allows injustice to prevail. What happened in the FCT local government election is not just about yesterday—it is a testing ground for 2027. When good people stay back, the wicked take over the process. Democracy is not stolen only by force; it is handed over by silence.

🎙OLUOMO OF DERBY 🇳🇬 🇬🇧🇬🇭 🇿🇼
Your Excellency, Ambassador Amin Muhammad Dalhatu, Congratulations on your appointment as Nigeria’s new Ambassador to the United Kingdom. We welcome you to the UK and wish you success in your new role. There are many pressing issues affecting Nigerians living in the UK, and we believe your tenure presents an important opportunity to address them and improve the effectiveness of the Nigerian High Commission. Below are key areas that urgently require attention: (1) Establishment of a Second Nigerian Embassy in the UK The Nigerian community in the UK has grown significantly, and the current embassy in London is no longer sufficient to meet demand. A second embassy or consulate in cities such as Cardiff, Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Belfast, or Edinburgh would greatly ease access to consular services for Nigerians across the UK. (2) Retraining of Embassy Staff and Improved Communication Embassy staff require retraining on customer service and public engagement. Nigerians in the UK need: A direct phone line that is reachable at all times, including emergencies Functional and responsive email access A dedicated feedback email to allow the public to share concerns and suggestions for improvement. (3) Welfare of Nigerians in the UK The embassy’s role must go beyond passport renewal. From 2026 onward, this approach will no longer be acceptable. The embassy should actively engage with Nigerian communities across the UK to educate and enlighten citizens on living, working, and integrating within the UK system. (4) Consular Support for Nigerians in Prisons and Immigration Detention Centres Many Nigerians in UK prisons and immigration detention centres are currently without consular support. This is deeply unfair. Regardless of their situation, they remain Nigerian citizens and deserve assistance, even if it is moral and welfare support during their time of need. (5) Support for Families of Deceased Nigerians in the UK The embassy must be involved when a Nigerian passes away in the UK. Families who have lost loved ones often receive little to no support from the High Commission. This is unacceptable and must be addressed. (6) Support for Nigerian Families Dealing with Social Services There are Nigerian families whose children have been taken into care by UK social services. These families need consistent consular support, including guidance and presence during court proceedings. The embassy must stand by its citizens at all times. (7) Creation of a Comprehensive Database of Nigerians in the UK A proper registration and data system for Nigerians in the UK is urgently needed. This will help in identifying next of kin during emergencies and will also make the embassy’s work more effective and efficient. (8) Community Programs and Engagement The embassy should organise regular programs and initiatives that positively impact Nigerian communities across the UK. The High Commission must be a centre of community support, not solely a passport renewal office. (9) Quarterly Town Hall Meetings We respectfully request a town hall meeting with the Ambassador every three months. This will allow Nigerians in the UK to receive updates on embassy activities and also share community concerns and priorities directly with you. (10) 24/7 Emergency Contact Line A fully functional 24-hour emergency phone line is essential. The embassy is the first point of contact for Nigerians in distress, and access during emergencies must be guaranteed. Once again, we congratulate you on your appointment and welcome you to the United Kingdom. We look forward to meaningful engagement and positive change for Nigerians living in the UK under your leadership. @Nigerialondon @abikedabiri @nidcom_gov
