In my book The Wolf's Den, OSS agent Adrian Krause did reconnaissance on the Dachau Concentration Camp before taking on the mission of information gathering from the Nazi physicist Joachim Herz. To encourage a Jewish resistance group in liberating the victims, but it ultimately fails. Interesting to note that this camp was the first of its kind for the Nazi Regime. Established by Heinrich Himmler, the head of the SS in 1933. Originally used to send political prisoners of the Third Reich, it later included Jews who were murdered on an industrial scale. It was also used as a model for the other death camps throughout Nazi-occupied territories. Was in operation until 1945, the end of World War II. Too many lives were lost for nothing.
