@Rozewicz @joannamoncrieff Depression is not a “disorder”. It is a human reaction to loss and is best helped relationally through psychosocial and milieu interventions. SSRIs and other antidepressants are basically numbing agents with multiple negative effects and have proven to be of limited effectiveness

@Rozewicz @joannamoncrieff SSRI's made me severely depressed, gave me suicidal thoughts, emotional blunting and potentially permanent sexual dysfunction. Neither doctor that prescribed them to me after only talking to me for a few minutes gave me any informed consent. "Safe and effective" is a LIE!

@Rozewicz @joannamoncrieff You are a psychiatrist scrambling to legitimize your life and career. You have not cured anyone
You have numbed people's emotions - those instances are the only "success"
What you have done in your career is a crime against humanity, and will be remebered as such

@Rozewicz @joannamoncrieff What body of research? You just enjoy castrating patients because you were circumcised at birth and want to inflict similar harm on others.

@Rozewicz @joannamoncrieff They rarely work and they are unsafe.
Huge body of research? Long-term RCT’s do not even exist for these drugs, unless you’re counting relapse studies. Because that’s where the money is… If withdrawal can be called relapse, then you better put patients back on the drugs! 💰💰

@Rozewicz @joannamoncrieff You've seen what you wanted to see. I suspect you've seen Iatrogenic harms and withdrawal effects weekly but misinterpreted it as an underlying condition.

@Rozewicz @joannamoncrieff SSRIs carry a black box warning in the US for increased rates of suicide vs control. SSRIs can cause truly brutal and sometimes permanent side effects like akathisia, anheodnia and PSSD

If my mum didn't take her insulin she would die, because she has type 1 diabetes. That's a disease that kills people.
I had serious depression, and all it would have taken to feel better is to talk to somebody about my challenges (death of a friend, childhood trauma, sexuality, life circumstances). Instead, antidepressants gave me a lifelong disability.
Suicide can be an effect of antidepressants. It's even on the side effects leaflet. Plus, people like me with PSSD have lost what we previously considered our reason to live. If a pill takes away your ability to be truly happy, how can it be life saving? It can be life destroying for some people, and I know many of these people.
Due to comments that exclude these experiences, we are far less likely to get the support we need. At the moment, the industry treats us as a statistic that doesn't matter. But we are people with lives and dreams.
Luckily, I get to be here to argue this. But the people who have died from antidepressants cannot do the same.

@joannamoncrieff Skeptics should spend a few days in peer-support communities to see the damage and destruction that these drugs can do to people. I didn't know the harm existed until I was personally harmed by Effexor. I didn't know about PSSD and akathisia. Glad it's all coming to light now.

I can understand this is a difficult time for my psychiatry colleagues. I am sure they all have good intentions, but it turns out that the most widely used psychiatric treatment, antidepressants, causes significant iatrogenic effects (e.g. severe withdrawal reactions, PSSD), is not very effective (at best) and does not target an underlying biological abnormality after all. Although many people still seek a psychiatric diagnosis and a medical approach, increasing numbers highlight how misleading and disabling this approach can be. Their voices are starting to be heard, and we need to work with them to provide help for people who have been harmed by psychiatric treatment, and to prevent more harm being done. Trying to shoot the messenger doesn’t help anyone.

People think collapse looks like explosions and chaos.
Nope. That's in the movies.
Reality is different.
It looks like a nurse and a manufacturing tech who can't afford rent together.
It looks like a veteran using a bucket for a bathroom.
It looks like a college graduate delivering food for an app.
It looks like a 60 year old starting over as a server after 19 years at one company.
It looks like right now. It's already here.
Most people just don't have a word for what they are living through.

If you are against data centers, then you should also avoid using AI entirely. This technology will contribute to the decrease in critical thinking and cognitive ability of what already is an extremely dumbed down society. If you want to preserve your brain function, remove this tech from your life.

@ShaziGoalie The unwind has only started last year, this will take 8 yrs min, you can't build an economy on real estate, it must be supported with product & service engineering, the real estate is the reward not the wealth mechanism. Canada is going to collapse down to its median $450K.

@middle_class_us Lets keep in mind that property taxes are tied to house prices. The higher market price the government can assign a home the more they can get for taxes.
