Deuteronomy 15:1-11 "At the end of every seven years you must cancel debts. This is how to cancel debt: Every creditor is to cancel what he has lent his neighbor. He is not to collect anything from his neighbor or brother, because the Lord’s release of debts has been proclaimed. You may collect something from a foreigner, but you must forgive whatever your brother owes you.
There will be no poor among you, however, because the Lord is certain to bless you in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess as an inheritance—if only you obey the Lord your God and are careful to follow every one of these commands I am giving you today. When the Lord your God blesses you as He has promised you, you will lend to many nations but not borrow; you will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you.
If there is a poor person among you, one of your brothers within any of your gates in the land the Lord your God is giving you, you must not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. Instead, you are to open your hand to him and freely loan him enough for whatever need he has. Be careful that there isn’t this wicked thought in your heart, ‘The seventh year, the year of canceling debts, is near,’ and you are stingy toward your poor brother and give him nothing. He will cry out to the Lord against you, and you will be guilty. Give to him, and don’t have a stingy heart when you give, and because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you do. For there will never cease to be poor people in the land; that is why I am commanding you, ‘You must willingly open your hand to your afflicted and poor brother in your land.’"
I am a firm believer in and proponent of capitalism, and I believe that Scripture affirms personal ownership. These verses to me seem like very prudent and important checks to have in a capitalist system (that we have neglected) to avoid corruption and debt-slavery and debt-abuse.
Debt-abuse is rampant in the United States and is, in my opinion, a very huge problem. The whole lending and borrowing system, and the extremely predatory interest rates, policies, and laws, need complete upheaval and reform.

I think the meanings are similar, but we don’t use that emoji for New Year’s (I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before now).
Also, for us, we sometimes use 🙏 for sorry, but we also sometimes use it to indicate prayer. Like, if someone tells us something difficult that they are going for, we might tell them “I will pray for you! 🙏”
Also, we might use 👋 for both hello and goodbye.

I would love to see everyday life in Japan!
I also think it could be fun to try to learn each others’ language by trying to talk to each other. There are translation apps that we could use, and we could offer advice on how things are pronounced, or help with things like proper etiquette or grammar.
Maybe it wouldn’t work well, but I’ve sort of done it before. I once worked a job where I had to use a translation app to speak to Mexican clients in-person, and there was an app that I used that worked fairly well. I could speak into it and it would translate what I said into Spanish that they could read, and vice-versa. Often I would try to read it after the translation myself, though, because it was fun to see them smile as I attempted to pronounce things correctly.
Everyone really appreciates it when they see a foreigner become curious about them and their culture, don’t they? To me, I feel encouraged and flattered when I see someone try really hard to learn or speak my language, and I think it looks like others feel the same way when I try hard to speak theirs.

アメリカのみんな、教えてほしいことがある。
私たち日本人が提供できる君たちが楽しめるようなコンテンツは何がある?
日本の日常生活とか?
あと、私の英語はまだ上手くないけどそのまま動画を撮って大丈夫?

@hoshizorarock I want to take a bite of all of Japan’s cheese violence! 🤤

They really are unhinged.
I saw someone ask if he would get arrested for damaging the national flag. No, he won’t.
Although it is highly disrespectful and obscene, we still consider it protected under freedom of speech and expression.
I’m beginning to think we shouldn’t. I have been a free speech absolutist for most of my life, but I’m beginning to change my mind because the hatred for our country, from within our country, has only gotten worse and more cruel over time.
I don’t want to live alongside people who hate me, my country, the people I care about, and everyone else in the United States anymore. I want countrymen that love our country and each other again.
English

@oishi_kokona I didn’t see this until just now, but it looks like I have seen it almost exactly 24 hours after your initial post, so good morning!

That’s so cool! I’m in Des Moines!
When people ask me about Iowa, sometimes I tell them, “No matter where you are, you are no more than fifteen minutes from a corn field. You could be in the middle of the city, but if you know which direction to go, there is certainly a corn field somewhere not more than fifteen minutes from you.”
English

@C_Anselm The world is small! I still have friends in Iowa. i used to live in Iowa City and a small village in Sioux county.

@ranopikori Is that you in the photo? If so, I love your hair and uniform!
Is it a cosplay from something?

@ZEROitami These people only have hatred and unhappiness in their hearts. Hatred for themselves. Hatred for their country. Hatred for their families.

国旗を燃やすなんてあり得ない。
わざわざそれをする理由は?
captain S.O@sow413

@sow413 We don’t like the people who do this, either.
We wish they would leave already. If they hate our country so much, they should go live in a country that they like, right?

@mofcro_sayaka I’ve never heard that phrase. I wonder if, when retranslating it back to English, Grok changed a word?
However, it reminds me of something else I like to say.
“All boobies are good boobies.”

If you genuinely, for real, asked me if you could come over to my place to eat BBQ, I would absolutely welcome you to come over and be thrilled about it.
Like, we know it’s not realistic because it would mean asking you to travel a long ways to get here.
But if you were serious about coming, we would be serious about the invite.
That’s how I feel.
English

You did great work today!
I am exhausted, too. I didn’t work overtime, but I have been drilling holes above my head all day. My arms feel weak, like noodles.
You look very good for 42! I never would have guessed, you look much younger! If you had told me you were younger than me (36), I would have believed you.

@butikunnon Yeah, we for sure do. I’m have major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety, and autism.
I’ve learned to mostly manage the depression okay, but the anxiety and autism are still awful.

@learning_yohei I will try to!
I just happened to see it on X when I briefly checked it and was curious, so I checked it out. I’m normally busy working hard at that time.

@learning_yohei
I joined to listen a little bit while I am at work. It was fun!
Sadly, I do not know any Japanese yet, but I would like to learn. I hope one day when I have learned some Japanese that I can join and have a conversation with you some day!
It is so cool that you do this, thank you for doing this!
