Kenya's KCB Group is looking to make market entry into Ethiopia this year (2026). Some notable updates from my conversation on FY2025 earnings with the Group CFO, Lawrence Kimathi (@kiambi_k): · KCB Group completely rules out greenfield investment in Ethiopia · KCB Group has completed its shortlisting screening exercise & Kimathi says "we have identified what we can now move forward with". So a target for acquisition has been identified · KCB Group says securing control in the target entity will be of paramount importance so whereas · Important to observe that whereas the National Bank of Ethiopia's Proclamation No.1360 of 2025 explicits place a 49.0% ceiling on foreign shareholding, there's a window for the regulator to allow "well established, reputable and sound foreign banks to partially or fully acquire domestic banks"

@DavidNdii @Saagite The underlying issue is the ballooning NPL. Percentage wise it's shrinking but in absolute terms, 200B+ in NPL is a concern.

Income up Sh90b (65%) from 2023. Without KCB we couldnt have done the petroleum GtoG. Without the GtoG, KES would’ve gone to Sh180/$, and probably defaulted on Eurobond2024 as instigators of GenZ protest intended. Thank you Paul Russo. Fortune favours the bold. @Saagite

BUY: Absa and Co-op are the new "follow-me" stocks. One rises, and the other follows suit. With Sh 24,000, you will own 1,000 shares and earn about Sh 1,500 dividend. Not so good dividend yield, but both could hike dividend to Sh 2 as they're squarely in the league of Sh 25B+ annual PAT. BUY: NCBA has found stability around Sh 80-85. By God, if the Standard Bank acquisition (or merger) makes the news again, this Ndegwa & Kenyatta families' crown jewel will touch the 3-digits again. BUY: WTK and KAPCH are trading at near half of their 2025 highs. With WTK at Sh 150, you can expect a 50% surge to Sh 225; and KAPCH re-testing the Sh 420 mark by 30th August 2026. Cyclical stocks depend on weather factors, leaf output, and global prices. Regardless, you never go wrong with British-owned firms.

0.07 & 0.1 - Tottenham Hotspur are responsible for the two lowest xG totals in a Premier League game this season, against Arsenal (0.07) and Chelsea (0.1). Concern.

@mozmale This is when cartels mess with the price but there is a new law which eliminates middlemen and empowers farmers. The law is not being enforced. Farmers should be earning more.

1 tree of coffee can produce 3kg of berries in a season. There can be 2 seasons in a year. A kilo of coffee berries is now KSH 600 - 1000, A tree in a season can return an average of KSH 2000 (KSH 4000 in a year). The older the tree, the more the kilos in a harvest. An acre can hold 800 to 1200 trees depending on the spacing. Apart from Central Kenya, coffee can grow in: • Eastern: Mbooni, Kangundo, Machakos, Embu, Meru • Western: Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma • Nyanza: Migori, Oyugis, Nyamira, Kisii • Rift-Valley: Trans-Nzoia, Bomet, Kericho, Laikipia, Keiyo, Baringo • Coast: Taita Taveta Coffee is the second-most-traded commodity globally after oil. For a nation to be free, it should produce and export more than it consumes and imports. Soil is our freedom. Seeds are our weapons. Food is our sovereignty. Farming is patriotism.

There is no “mainstream” history being written about Raila. We have lived through Raila’s life. We know who, what and why we are mourning. You won’t flip anything here. This is not some Mau Mau text book story.

@otienowill A PhD doesn’t guarantee wisdom, but dismissing it with insults shows none either. Depth and dignity don’t need degrees—they come from reasoning, not shouting. Let’s critique ideas, not sling mud.

A whole PhD, yet reasoning like a loud matatu conductor shouting nonsense at a stage nobody asked to stop at. You didn’t go through years of research and writing just to end up sounding like you defend oppression for likes and retweets. It’s tragic how you climbed the academic ladder only to fall flat on common sense. The gown is heavy, yes, but surely it shouldn't crush your moral compass. People with no formal education are out there showing more depth, dignity, and discernment than your whole thesis. You should demand a refund because what you got was a title, not wisdom.
