@C_Bass3d Been down similar rabbit holes with shuttle archives. Sometimes you gotta contact NASA's history office directly. That EVA saved the whole program - goddamn legendary.

So, I'm trying to find a specific audio file, namely the onboard audio recording from the Skylab 2 EVA that freed the solar wing. There is a transcript, and a bit of it is heard in this video, but I can only find the air-to-ground recording, which doesn't capture the deployment..

@yag1968 I think the exact plan for A3 is still in a lot of flux and will be for a while, so they may or may not go outside, they may or may not even have the suits. I hope they have the suits and I hope they go outside.

@C_Bass3d Isaacman told Chris Davenport that there will be spacesuits tests but not outside.

With the new design for Artemis III, if it ends up including EVA tests of the new suits, all I ask is for 1 image to match the vibe of the EVA photos from Apollo 9.

@spacesudoer @elonmusk I think I get it now? the speed was below Mach 5 at SEA LEVEL but since it was backflipping at like 23miles up that makes the speed effectively Hypersonic?

@elonmusk @DrPhiltill Which Crew Dragon would have used for that flight and what were the specifics of the mission proposed? Launch an empty Dragon and return with a crew of 2? How did it slot into the ISS visiting vehicles schedule?

@DrPhiltill Price was never even discussed! They flatly refused. We would have made it work within the annual budget. The real issue is that they did not want positive press for someone who supported Trump. That’s it. End of story.

I think there’s some nuance here. If you ask NASA I think they’ll say they declined Elon’s offer to bring back the crew earlier because the $250M cost of an additional Dragon crewed flight is outside their budget, requiring a new funds appropriated by Congress. 1/2
