As a USFSP alumni, I second this. I went to USFSP at a time when it felt (and administration) was separate from the Tampa campus. It gave an independent feel to the campus that was making decisions separate from the main campus. I would get back involved with the alumni assoc.

Anyway, USF St. Petersburg should become a fully independent university. The University of South Florida system is great but Pinellas deserves an independent public university committed to serving this county. We can name it the University of the Gulf of America if we have to.

FWIW, St. Pete City Council voted 6-1 in favor of this resolution with Councilman Muhammad absent (🤔). Councilman Floyd was the lone no vote.
