@cselley Halifax went NDP in the 6 federal elections before the Justin Trudeau government. But I’m not sure Avi Lewis would appeal to a Maritime electorate.

@Lord_Bob I enjoyed the article. I rooted for Gainey but I'm not sure he was as good at any aspect of the game as Craig Ramsay.

I'm not 60-70% happy with this, didn't keep my thesis running strongly through all 4,000 words, but this is what happens when I snatch at ideas as they pass rather than writing them out properly. Anyway I'm glad to have come away still thinking Gainey was good, just not HoF.
Lord_Bob@Lord_Bob

New on the hockey blog: it's not that Bob Gainey wasn't a great defensive forward, it's that it wasn't enough of a skill to make him very useful. Bob Gainey Was Overrated. timetokillnow.com/2026/04/22/bob…

@righttimebomani @getnickwright I heartily endorse Wright’s disagreement on Michael Phelps’s high placement. The only swimming stroke that counts is the fastest one, freestyle. Unless I miscounted, Phelps one a single non-relay freestyle Olympic gold. Katie Ledecky won EIGHT.

@colbycosh @Tyson_MLB Backup catcher who hit .220. Managed the Jays for a season and a half finishing under .500 (the team was above .500 in the years before and after). Longtime announcer delivering platitudes and conventional wisdom in a voice reminiscent of Wallace Shawn. What more could you want?

Lyrics/songs where the voice is third-person, telling a tale? No I/me/you. A vignette of a play of a scene of something interesting. I think British music excels at this. Mostly Blur. Anything to offer?

@Patrick774113 @haralabob I just checked Cleaning the Glass which strips out garbage time and the Lakers fare a little better, 9th best scoring margin. However, that site still has their expected record at 33-25 which would have them 5th in the conference and 2 games out of the play-in.

@Patrick774113 @haralabob Scoring margin for the season has them tied for 9th in the conference. Their strength of schedule has been weaker than the average team thus far and is pretty stiff for the rest of the season.

I predict @jj_redick will end up being a really good NBA head coach. He's getting thrown into a tough situation with a pretty flawed roster, but nearly everything I've heard him say in his pressers and interviews leads me to believe he gets it.

If you told me in 1987 that Jose Canseco, Eric Davis, Mark McGwire, Darryl Strawberry, Don Mattingly, and Dwight Gooden wouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame but the Padres’ shitty catcher I was getting in every other pack was gonna make it I’d have thought you were fucking nuts.
