If you want an example of how Government really feels about local media, Kent's biggest news outlet has been barred from attending the @wesstreeting meningitis briefing.

Well, approximately 99% of the complaints we receive are from people complaining that we've covered their court case, so let's put this in its proper context.

Culture Sec Lisa Nandy is “really concerned” about the efficacy of press regulator IPSO She questioned: “If only 1% of complaints are upheld and nobody has ever been fined, is that because everything that is produced by the press in this country is 100% true and accurate...?"

30 years ago today, parents rushed to #Dunblane Primary School on hearing of a shooting: 16 children & their teacher were dead. Will never forget the moment as a young reporter in the then @Evening_Tele newsroom when ed Alan Proctor called attention to announce ‘major incident’..

@MAMBarLife If only there was a mature English speaking jurisdiction nearby which has had summary criminal trials heard by professional judges sitting alone for more than a century. Perhaps there might be things to be learned.

@Broonjunior @BradfemlyWalsh Question - am I the age I am now, or the age I was then? Because if its the latter my options are severely limited

@BradfemlyWalsh If you wouldn’t mind could you tell 20 yo Jonathan that he should accept his flatmate’s offer of a spare ticket to see a band he’d never heard of called Nirvana play the Queen Margaret Union, and, no, pints after rugby was in fact not a better way to spend that Saturday night.

I think it is abundantly clear that the elite multimillionaire class love to preach inclusion, acceptance and understanding of disabled people until they are actually confronted with disability.
They will stand on stage and applaud a film about the struggles of living with Tourette’s. They will celebrate the awareness. They will congratulate themselves on being progressive.
But the moment they are faced with the hard, gritty reality of Tourette’s uncensored and unscripted for all to see and hear, the tone changes.
Suddenly they are shocked. Suddenly they are appalled. Suddenly they are not quite as inclusive, accepting or understanding after all.
The mask of virtue slipped.
You invited a man with Tourette’s into the room. You were made aware of his condition. You applauded him. And then when Tourette’s did exactly what Tourette’s does, you recoiled.
You cannot celebrate the story and reject the reality.
Tourette’s is not tidy. It is not convenient. It is not performative. It is neurological. It is involuntary. It does not edit itself for elite comfort.
The irony is this. Tourette’s is louder than ever right now. More people are learning. More people are asking questions. More people are understanding.
You tried to distance yourselves from the reality. Instead you amplified it.
We are all thinking of you Johnny. We are with you. And support for you and for everyone living with Tourette’s is only growing.
